Couple points to make ina addition to the video:

1. ALL of the midsized trucks except the Nissan Frontier used turbo charged engines. Colorado, Tacoma and Ranger.

2. RR is the ONLY mid-sized truck that uses diesel tech CGI engine block (also the XLT's with the 2.7L V6 TT) that is also found in Ford's Power Stroke 6.7L Turbo Diesel engines. CGI (Compacted Graphite Iron) is a sinter cast iron block with fractured main bearing caps, no piston sleeves and 2x the dimensional stability of sleeved aluminum blocks.

CGI Engine Block Benefits

It's pretty significant in terms of engine durability as you don't actually need cross bolts to counteract block torsion under load. The fact that the cylinder walls also have 50% less expansion due to heat helps with dimensional stability for piston wear and promotes superior ring seal (also allows for lower ring tension as they don't need to expand out as much to maintain optimal seal). It's a very critical piece of the puzzle in making reliable power.

The turbo's also use electronic waste gate control which allows for more accurate boost bleed off (better reliability as well) on the Borg Warner designed 39mm turbos. Yah, it's a fairly robust and well-built no-frills performance / work truck engine.

3. The RR is also the ONLY mid-sized truck that makes 405 HP / 430 lb-ft of torque stock.

4. As mentioned in the video, the RR also has a factory "hot cal" from Ford Performance that is warrantied and produces 455 HP / 536 lb-ft of torque that I personally have on my own RR as do many others on this forum, bringing the truck well beyond its competitors.

5. It is the ONLY mid-sized truck with 7 forward gears and a shift speed that rivals the automatics found in Porsche's (about 8mS)

Also, that source in the video regarding the block of the 2.7L vs. the 3.0L is incorrect regarding. The entire block of the 2.7L and 3.0L are the same, in fact the 3.0L is a bored and stroked 2.7L block. Both used fractured main bearing caps. Straight from the horses mouth:

There is an aluminum structural "sleeve" that goes over the bottom end of the 2.7/3.0L block, so it's a two-piece design similar to the Power Stroke 6.7L Turbo Diesel.

And yet another issue I have with the video is the criticism of the belt drive oil pump. The 5.0L V8 uses the same belt driven system! All the Ecoboost do and most modern engines do.

There are F-150's out there with 400k miles on the factory belt...something that most people dont' know about chain driven pumps is that chain oscillation can shatter pump gears (a common issue on Nissan's 3.7L V6 NA engine).

Belt driven oil pumps were introduced back in the early 2000's on small I4's, they were somewhat problematic initially, as is any new technology, but over time it's been ironed out and most people don't even know their 5.0L Coyote V8's use a belt drive oil pump!

The Real Cost of The Oil Pump Belt - 3.0 Duramax Diesel

Just a few examples, but most oil pumps are now belt driven, I4's, V6's and V8's all alike, people just don't know any better and assume it's "only this engine" and it "must be unreliable" because everyone knows chains are better than belts just because....until your pump gears shatter!

Application is what matters, not it's always this or it's always that. Oil pumps have low torque loads compared to cams and phasors, the g-rotor teeth are also sensitive to harmonics, so belts make MORE sense for oil pumps while chains make more sense for cams.

i have never heard of an oil pump gear shattering. i am not saying it doesn't happen, because you obviously have dealt with it, or investigated it, @Lion77 , but i think its not at all common. maybe its particularly common on that nissan motor but i have never heard of it till you mentioned it a few months back in another post.

i would still believe chains are less prone to cause an issue than a belt but i am not against times changing and things going to belts..... unless time shows the belt driven pumps end up causing issues, like timing belts did and manufacturers have gone back to engines being driven by timing chains because of catastrophic damage caused by timing belts breaking.

but, i am a huge fan of you guy's discussions on this site because they are very educational and informative to those of us who are not in the line of work or have the experience you guys have and i have no real info to put in here other than i have never heard of it prior to reading your posts (though i do have 30 years of working on vehicles as a hobby and 24 years of aviation powertrain experience so not new to engines, reciprocating or turbine).

and my only nissan z car experience is owning an 85 datsun/nissan 300zx back in the 90s and it wore out the rings and blew oil out the tail pipe anytime it was running.
