That locker button is sumptin I picked-up on here a year ago or so. I do recall that where the physical locker button is located on the center console just ahead of the arm rest, that button is not there with the FX4.

i like the xl actual locker button. right by the mode button and auto start button.

i wonder if you guys could jsut get an xl button assembly and plug it in to get the physical button. i know my son's stx 4x4 (non fx4) has the same button i have on my two wheel drive for the locker.

Think about how long you wish to keep the Ranger for.
Possibly care free for 10 years. If wishing to keep longer maybe get a warranty.
Myself I came from a 4G Ranger. That was very basic. Had that for 13 years. Low mileage.
The new Gen just has so many sensors. Most warranties go up to 10 years.
I went beyond that. Hope this is my last vehicle.

As soon as you get it put some seat covers on it. The the seats are protected for many years.

The new 2.3L MPC sold me on the Ranger. Aluminum valve cover and pan. Motor from Mustang. Detuned.

A lot of new motors do not have steel sleaves. A hard coating is put on cylinder walls.
I will change my oil every 7K KM. Frequent oil changes seem to offer long term engine life.

I would suggest to order the truck. Much more pleasurable then just buying off lot.

I hear you about the physical button, but after living with the fx4 for a year I rather like the way it's set up. When I press the off-road mode button it brings up a a lot of info on the center screen including the front camera (and options for other camera views) and other stuff along with the locker selector. Since the buttons like center locker on non-fx4 rangers and the auto start/stop etc don't light up when activated, with them I press the button and look elsewhere for the status so in practice I honestly don't feel that one is better than the other. If you're used to the physical buttons then yea, hopping into an fx4 will have you fumbling around to activate the locker, but conversely, if I hopped into a non-fx4 I wouldn't be used either where to look for status or which screen the locker button brings up (if any).

Welcome! I change the filter and oil with full synthetic every 5,000 miles. Enjoy a really great truck.

On a different note, if you are a locker guy and want a button to push for the rear locker, careful with the FX4 package as there might not be a dedicated/separate locker button. The FX4 locker seems to be associated with a drive mode and you may or may not be interested.
Thanks for the heads up, as long as there’s a locker I’m good.
The locker "button" is on the screen because there are different physical buttons by the drive mode selector, namely the off-road mode button which, among other things, brings up the rear locker button on the center screen.
so many vehicles now are like iPhones with wheels😂

Thanks for the heads up cause my thoughts is keeping the truck for the next 10-15 yrs and just meticulously maintaining it. Which is what I’ve done with my 2nd Gen Taco(600+K miles before I sold it)

So, I’ve never owned a Ranger. All I’ve known is Toyota 2nd and 3rd Generation’s.
I really like the 2025-26 Ranger FX4 OFF ROAD 300A package.

My question is, what do I need to watch out for concerning the new Generation Ranger? Reliability? Maintenance? Etc…

thanks guys I can use all the help..
I like my 2024 Ranger Lariat a lot, and somewhere on this site is a post I wrote describing why I really prefer it over the new Tacoma. FWIW, I'm less sure I would buy it again now, and the reason is the transmission. The engine (2.7) is a wonderful thing; the transmission I've found less so. It's totally fine 98% of the time, but once in a while it has clunky and unpredictable down-shifts. It did smooth out after a few thousand miles, but it still does it with some regularity. Of course the dealer says nothing to be done unless I can replicate it when they're driving it, but with an intermittent shifting issue, that's pretty much impossible. I am reluctantly used to it. Note: there are not widespread transmission issues reported with this truck, so probably I'm just over-sensitive, but I come from ZF transmissions which have always been flawlessly smooth for me, so there it is.

Thank you for the heads up on tranny issues, it’s been something on the back of my head about the 10R80. From the latest 2025-2026 Ranger it’s said to be 10R60, will just have to see..

Every single new vehicle on sale has an ”issues“ list if you spend time on forums. The Ranger’s list is much shorter than most — certainly shorter (and less concerning) than the Tacoma.

It would make sense you haven't checked but just so you know - there's a 28 page thread on the Taco forms with catastrophic transmission failures.

I figured that much it’s why I’m leaning a lot more towards the Ranger 2.3L. And with the new added port fuel injection and the 10R60 transmission makes it a good package for what I’m seeing.. the also plus side, it’s all gear driven oil pump and timing chain, no wet belts whatsoever..

I mean look: you obviously know how to keep a vehicle running. I am tremendously impressed that you got 600k out of your old Tacoma. TBH, I doubt that any modern truck will get to those numbers absent major rebuilds over time. But the 6G Ranger has a lot going for it. I love my 2025 2.3L.

In all honesty those days where you can get your money’s worth from a simple truck no matter what the manufacturer is long gone and I get it. Toyota has jumped off the cliff they’re done.
