I saw that Redline Tuning released their Bolt In Hood QuickLIFT system for the Ranger and had to get a set. I've had their products on my Mustang for many years and they are awesome! I got them and installation was less than 10 minutes as they come with a color instruction manual and bolt into factory locations. These things work great, they raise the hood quickly and then slow down nicely before reaching the top. They even raise the hood higher than the factory prop rod. They are even made is the USA and have a 4 year warranty.

Not sure the 40 dollars more for the ELITE version is worth it (look at the product pages). Seems the only difference is color, a different gas spring, and an additional warranty year (5 years isntead of 4). Can you take a video of it opening and closing?

I was sold until I read this: “The end-fittings used are designed specifically for this application.” and they have special dampening. Replacemt struts won’t be found at NAPA. just something to think about. Unless the fittings unscrew?

A prop rod on a Raptor is a mistake, shame on Ford…

Will this make it harder to get the hood to latch.
A drop of about 10" works now will it still with the struts installed.
Looks like a nice kit.

I've also had the Redline struts on other vehicles and am glad they have a set for the Ranger now. They should be a great prop rod replacement solution... the sets I've had previously fit perfectly and lasted a long time. Shouldn't make it harder to latch from what I experienced with their struts.

Placing an order now - thanks for the heads up!

These were standard on 5G Rangers until late 2022/2023.
They were replaced with the prop rod due to 'supply chain issues".

@Trail_Guy , how's the flex on the hood when lowering it? Being aluminum it seems like it flexed in some bad ways with some other struts on the market. The product videos show the soft opening but nothing around the closing of the hood.

13 years and counting on my Mustang which also has an aluminum hood. Zero issues with flexing or otherwise.
These will be the first modification on my to do list.

My 2006 Subaru Legacy spec.B was also an aluminum hood I used these Redline struts on, and never had a flexing issue either. The slowed top end of the upward movement at the top of the stroke was classy and smooth. No closing issues either.

I ordered my set earlier and they've already been marked as shipped, and Redline has a great customer service email they sent for handling of any problems with installation, missing parts, etc. they send proactively. Great outfit to work with!

Ordered mine also today and have already received a shipped email.
For being a aluminum hood it does have some weight to it.
Can not see how it would be able to flex.

OK, looks like strut positioning for these will help.

I've seen the types that connect to the hinge bracket or ditch light bracket. When pulling the hood down, the force needed to collapse the strut caused the hood to move in a way that looks like it would stress the material over time. Because the mount point for these are closer to 1/3 up the hood it should reduce the stress points.

I had that issue when I converted my 2001 Ranger to use Explorer hood struts. The aluminum hood was light enough that I could get away with using only one of them, but when I used both it would bend the hood enough to be uncomfortable. IIRC that was a short strut mounted on the hinge itself

Looks great ! I'm patiently waiting for the amber DRL headlight upgrade. Only a matter of time, I've seen them for BMWs.

I ordered mine also once I saw it available on their site. I installed these before on my Tacoma and loved them. Makes opening the hood way nicer and hassle free.
