Stopped by my dealer today to inquire about the J-frame brackets they were ordering under warranty. When the service rep looked up the work order to check, they found Ford refused saying they were covered only if the Ford topper was ordered. FN Ford. I'm also waiting for Ford to fix my auto opening windows with the use of the fob.

Got the braces installed, finally. The actual brace installation is straightforward. The biggest pain in the ass is the four rivets holding the front fender liner. They have to be removed and takes a lot of swear words and the right tools. The entire fender liner is installed with scrivets (plastic clips), but some brilliant engineer decided they need to add rivets to the front part.

The next pain is all the plastic clips that break if not careful. I did break one of the clip mounts from the fender, it’s tough to reach behind the lower front cover with the 8mm.

So I had to break pieces off my truck to install a part to keep my truck from breaking when it shouldn’t break in the first place. Cool.

$139 for kit. 3.5 hours.

Tips: save yourself frustration and remove the tires & get a Dremel to remove the rivets.

Ford saying they will only install them under warranty if I purchased their topper is BS. I feel that is a manufacturing defect since it only affects those built within a small window of a couple of months. I asked the service manager if he and I sat on a rail of my truck and the bed collapsed, what would Ford do regarding a warranty claim. He replied, "that's a good question and I don't know, but I don't think you should try it".
