Hello Folks! I'm new to this forum. As the title says, I just bought a 2024 XLT FX4 2.7l v6. The tires that are on it now are 255 70R17. I dont really care about wider tires more just taller. Was thinking about 255 85r17 mickey thompson baja or something a little shorter. I dont really want to change stock shocks for now. I'll use up the stock tires then replace. Toyo open country AT III have always been my go to..

Anyone have any insight on how tall I can go before rubbing? I'm sure I can turn the wheel and measure the distance to inside wheel fender

I have a 2024 Ranger 4x4, 2.7 ecoboost, FX4 package that came with 255/70R17 Goodyears like yours on the factory FX4 wheels. I swapped them for Toyo Open Country R/T’s in the 275/70R17 size keeping the factory wheels and suspension. I have many miles of off road use with excellent traction, increased ground clearance and no visible rubbing.

I like this fitment, I want to go 285/70R17 with a lower offset wheel (like a +12 or so)..

Do you know the offset of the OEM 17's, and how much clearance do you have?

I’m sorry, I don’t know the factory wheel offset. I went to a local tire shop I used and they did some measuring and recommended the 275/70R17 Toyos. The factory wheels are 7.5 inches wide, so for a 285 cross-section tire you might need a wider 8 inch wheel. I wanted to avoid the wheel-tires extending out beyond the fenders with a radical offset, so keeping the factory wheels worked out best. I have good tire to fender clearance and have not experienced any rubbing.

Cool, no worries! A quick google shows +55 offset.

I was going to get a 8.5" or 9" at a +8-+12 offset and see if it fits.. It SHOULD...... if not, I'll just have to get a little bit of a leveling lift :).

Also on the prowl for some fender flares that work with the sensors.

So the 18" wheels are a lariat wheel?

My father in law gave me his wheels/tires when he got his lift installed about 3 weeks into owning his xlt and they are chrome 18s. His is a 25 xlt fx4.

Its the chrome ones in this pic next to my stock xl grey wheel

I can’t say if 255/85’s would fit, but I have 255/75r17’s mounted on a 17x8.5 rim with +35 offset. Stock offset is +55 so I’m not sure what impact, if any, the extra +20mm offset has with the taller tire with regard to clearance.

There is another thread somewhere around here where people figured out you could go up to 265 70R17 without any mods, but it was close.

So the 18" wheels are a lariat wheel?
Those 18s are Chrome Package wheels regardless of trim level; they're the same on both XLTs and Lariats. The Lariat 18s are the ones with the bent/kinked twin spokes:

The Black Appearance Package wheels do the same thing, both Lariat & XLT have the same ones.

Is there a forum for OEM Goodyear Wrangler take off tires? Just got a 2025 XLT (standard size 255/70 R17). They are brand new...less than 200 miles. My local tire shop will cut me a deal on some KO's that will fit (265/70 R17). But they won't give me much for the 255's because they said that is a nonstandard size. I think they just mean that they don't carry that size.

I'm also new to Ranger and this forum. Is there a thread on here that I am missing? Or is this the best way to put them out there? I'm in FWTX if that helps. I've never shipped tires before. But I bet that is expensive? Looks like DIscount Tire has these Goodyear Wrangler tires at about $200 each.

I think by this you mean “Is there a dedicated spot here on Ranger6G for people to sell OE takeoffs”, and the answer is ‘not really’.

You could of course list them in the wheels & tires section of the marketplace forum:
But for all intents and purposes, you'd be selling water to a well.

Shipping tires is indeed incredibly onerous, and nobody wants used tires enough to pay for that. List them on Facebook Marketplace and/or Craigslist, and expect offers in the $10̸0̸ range for the set. Like you saw on Discount's website, the OE Goodyears aren't exactly worth their weight in gold.

i was going to put the 17s i took off onto the wife's wrangler rims since her tires are some off brand the previous owners put on. i think the ranger tires are way better then what she has now and since they are so close in size, they won't cause any issues swapping them over.

and since the autocraft shop on the navy base let all their contractors go, they said that if you know how to use the machines, you are free to do tires on your own. those machines look just like the ones from when i was active duty in the 90s and did my own tire removal/installs and balancing so it will only be 5 bucks to swap them. i already verified i can do the balance machine when i put new tps in the wheels my FIL gave me last weekend as they made the 4 hour trip to my mom's with no issues

Now that's worth its weight in gold.
If I had a spare $15k lying around for machines (and space in the garage) I'd never need to set foot in a tire shop again. I don't mind doing so in the meantime, but sitting in the lobby waiting for somebody else to eventually get around to it will never not drive me nuts.

when that dude told me that we could do our own, i was so happy. i hate waiting for tire work too and i would always complain about it. even when they had contractors on base doing it, i would ask if i could just do it since they were really slow about it. now, we are free to swap tires as often as we want
