Lane centering keeps asking me to hold the wheel when road is straight

Anyone else have this issue where when using lane centering and cruise I get asked to hold the wheel when I am holding the wheel on a straight road. It is really annoying.

I am driving on a perfectly straight road and am holding the wheel, but there is really no need for input as the truck is tracking perfectly straight for miles. So, it asks me and I have to nudge the wheel for it to go away. This is super annoying.

I recently found out that all you have to do is slightly wiggle the wheel. As if you need to make an adjustment. Then that gets rid the notification.

Yeah, I know. The problem is that is a pain in the ass. I have to wiggle the wheel constantly and sometimes I am on a road that is perfectly straight for 10's of miles. Sure is a pain in the ass.

Agreed, i think it’s just their way to avoid any liability in the case of a crash, like Tesla, but at least Tesla all you have to do is squeeze the steering wheel. Took me a while to figure out that it was a Wiggle not a squeeze lol

However, i am pleasantly surprised how well it guides it self on the road.

It does seem to work well, besides the wiggle the steering wheel thing.

Ford implemented torque input as the sensor for the computer to register your hands are on the wheel. It's not very sensitive so you have to give it a bit more umph when prompted. It's annoying but that's how Ford chose to do it.

Yes it’s a little annoying that you have to jiggle the wheel as opposed to just squeezing it like some brands but I suppose the trade off is the slight nudging of the steering to keep you in the lane is so much gentler and non intrusive than other systems I have used and the beeping when it does require you to intervene is so much less annoying than other brands systems. Lane keeping in other cars will make it look like you are swerving like a maniac due to the strength of the steering correction and also the beeping will override the car audio system with a much more annoying alert sound. Have to slightly jiggle the wheel on straight highway driving to let the car no you are awake does get a little annoying but overall the system is probably the overall best I’ve used compared to other brands and I drive a lot of different vehicles for work.

I don’t mind it. It is far less intrusive than my BMW which makes you firmly squeeze the steering wheel. The steering correction is more gentle in the Ranger. The BMW doesn’t correct till it is nearing the line and probably looks like a drunken sailor if you were following.

I haven’t tested to see if it will still correct for lane departure once it has warned and cancelled lane centering when it thinks your hands are not on the wheel.

You are just too good of a driver. If you were constantly making corrections, the system wouldn’t be triggering. Agree, it is frustrating.

The Lane Centering is too sensitive, I have the same issue. I will be driving on a straight road with hand on the wheel but get the message to keep hand on the wheel, it is annoying.

Yes, same here in the Ranger and in my last car (Subaru Outback). I think it’s their way of covering their asses.

I agree that it is a good system. I will probably do the water bottle trick. There should be logic in there that sees the road is straight and doesn't do that. I would imaging they could fix it with an update if they wanted to, but in this country where we desperately need tort reform they need to avoid lawsuits.

Its like Ford made the lane centering TOO good. You have all this tech to almost self drive, but you have to nudge the steering wheel occasionally.....makes little sense, except legally.

You guys are lucky to state your truck tracks true, mine pulls just a little to the right, annoying, but will have an alignment done, once they figure out my bigger issues, and if I decide to keep the truck ugh.

I would never recommend doing anything unsafe or especially illegal…

BUT it has been shown that a 2lb ankle weight off Amazon or the local sporting goods store provides enough pressure to keep this sensor from triggering. Again I would never advise breaking any traffic laws
