UPDATE:TOP BOX INSTALLED

So I installed the top box today. Fits perfectly into the XLT dashboard. I'll post the steps i took and some advice for anyone else wanting to do it. But first a couple things.
1. The gray trim is an exact color match for what's on the dash in our XLT.
2.The vent on the Lariat peice is also a match for the vents in the XLT.
3.The leather trim dash peice is plastic welded on and I don't beleive the xlt trim could be swapped without significant modification.
4.There is not(at least that i could see) the wiring for the LED light on the shelf built into the XLT

So here's the steps I took.

1.Remove the plastic honeycomb panel from the dash (hopefully without breaking as many of the clips as I did whoops)

2. There are 4, 7mm bolts along the top of the assembly that have to be removed in order to remove the assembly.

3.Pull out the entire assembly, which is suprisingly easier than pulling out the trim peice. I pulled from the shelf initially then pushed the tabs on the outer side of the vent in and finally pulled the top part out.
1000015422.jpg

This leaves the empty space where the glove box is going to be.

4.carefully line up all the holes in the dash with the poles sticking out of the glove box assembly. Push in all the tabs until it's fully seated.

5. reinstall the two center bolts to the dash with the glove box open.

And the top glove box is installed!! Took me less than an hour with some nylon pry tools and a 7mm ratchet. The leather mix matched with the XLT plastic dash above the steering wheel doesn't particularly bother me and the leather and stitching on the box matches that on the door panels, but be aware of that if it will bother you.

Curious why it would be more difficult than changing a Lariat? And I have no idea how difficult that process is.

Looks great! Going to do this. I think it looks right as it matches the door and center armrest trips with stitching and material. Is the trim piece above the cluster console replaceable? I would rather replace that trim above the cluster, front of steering wheel with a Lariat trim piece then all would match, if that's even possible.

Thanks for posting this in great detail. Very very helpful and why I use these forums.

Got my parts today, Lakeland Ford is Awesome! Ordered last Friday received today. Shipping was $17 instead of 100 from Tasca or Levittown.
Replacing the leather part with the plastic XLT trim is NOT a simple “plug and play “ process for sure.
The XLT trim piece has your standard clips that would pry out with a nylon trim tool.
The Lariat looks like it is “spot welded” in place.
The only way it might work would be to grind off all of the XLT attachment tabs and drill out the LARIAT “spot welds”. Would then have to 3m tape or epoxy the XLT trim piece on.
I checked the pieces with a contour gauge and the faces follow the same contour.
So for me, the next step in the process is going to involve my kid the body tech and get his professional opinion. I’ll report back.

Not sure about the piece surrounding the gauge cluster, the XLT has a smaller gauge cluster than the Lariat
In any event, that piece is about $400 either for the XLT or Lariat.

I for one wouldn't mind be a leather in my XLT.
TBH, unless my kid says it is an easy switch (for him), I am leaning toward the leather. It matches the console and I guess I really never paid attention to the door armrests until today. All ties together pretty well.

Is there a leather panel that can be swapped for the driver's side? Seems like it was mentioned earlier. If so, anyone going to attempt the swap?

Maybe. The issue might be the size of the display. The Lariat has a bigger display. In any case, either piece looks to be $400.

It's no issue, both displays foot prints are the same. 8 to 12 Swaps have already been done.
Why would the drivers side piece be so expensive?

So the only issue is the $400 price tag. There are things more important to me right now. But here are the part #’s . I THINK the LA suffix is the Lariat. Verify before you order.
