Mod for increase mileage?

tire weight would be your best bet. look for the lightest tires that meet your requirements and you will see a difference.

i changed the michelin defenders on my 04 ranger to a heavier wheel, not purposely, and lost 3 mpg. i immediately put the defenders back on and sold those other tires off. i am all for the best gas mileage i can get in a vehicle, thats why i have a 2.3 ranger

I hear going to lighter forged wheels help. I’m thinking about Method Race wheels to drop some rotating mass once I finally pull the trigger on a Ranger (still waiting on ‘26 model info).

In all seriousness... the gearing of the RR and the weight are two things you could realistically control to maybe get some better mileage. Neither are what I would think are worth changing. Dropping weight will be hard as a lot of the weight is in the beefed up frame and drivetrain and if you re-gear why not just buy a regular ranger.

Maybe it's just me but what was Ford thinking with the gearing? They're way to close together, I mean we have 10 gears to work with they couldn't have spread them out just a tad more?

Somewhere in the steering wheel settings you can adjust the shift point of the trans. I set mine to 3000rpm.
It only works if you keep your foot out of it though and where’s the fun in that?

I was more referring to the rear diff gear ratio. I think it's 4.10. I Think they did a great job, personally. In 4LO it results in a crawl ratio of about 67:1--higher than all comparable trucks in its class outside the gladiator.

Swapping that to 3.7 would bring it more in line with the rest of the ranger line and would get a decent increase in MPG.

Though different gears in the trans might do better too--that's not something easily changed so I didn't even think about that.

I ordered the transmission, transfer case, and engine skid plates from Rival. As the truck doesn't come with a transfer case skid plate, I wonder if having one will help with aerodynamics at all.

1. Didn’t make any difference when I did this on my Bronco.
2. I read an aerodynamic article that states that airspeed underneath an average vehicle is no more than about 30 MPH, which helps explain #1.

Wow. I see everyone has a lot of great ideas to gain a mile or 2 per gallon. FYI. If you spend $1,000 so you can gain 1 mpg, you have to drive around 100,000 miles to pay for your mod. Not so great from a return point of view. Now if you do a mod for any reason other than gas mileage, then you have bought a RR for the right reason. Let’s have fun and keep the oil refineries in business.

Or drive a big V8 truck for a while….. My previous truck was a Land Cruiser 200, I was lucky to get 12 to 14 mpgs. I am very satisfied with my RR that routinely gets 18 on long trips, that is a huge improvement.

Dunno John, I'd love to have my old 95 Bronco 351 (5.8L) back. It got 20 mpg uphill, downhill, in the summer or at -30 below. It even averaged 20 mpg pulling my old Alaskan 1/4" aluminum jet boat, which also had a 351. Wish they had V8s today that could do that. On the other foot, my old 70 Cuda and 68 Shelby never met a gas station they could pass...

Performance shift indicator is under Settings in the MyView options on the steering wheel controls.(right button on the Ranger Raptor)
I don’t remember what the default is, but I think it was 4500.
You can choose between 3000 and 5000 in 500 rpm increments I believe.

All you can do is stay in normal mode, use the cruise control as much as possible, user premium fuel, put on a flat bed cover, get a lighter rim\tire combo, and reduce weight.

I have quite a few engine mods I haven't put on yet and still waiting on choosing a downpipe\intake\exhaust plus a tune. Will be interesting to see if it makes it better or worse.

Some overseas models have had "eco" mode unlocked by forscan but not so far in North America.

I feel like gears 8-9-10 could be slightly taller

Shift them all up a pinch to lower highway cruise rpms another 250
