Anybody else see this garbage from Motor Trend?

They don’t provide any real data to backup their prejudiced opinions and are completely out if step with nearly all auto journalists that have tested the Ranger Raptor. But of course what would you expect from a rag that picked the Rivian RT as Truck of the Year in 2022 over the little Ford Maverick.

I don’t understand the shtick with the shifter being hard to shift? I mean seriously, I was used to it after about two drives.

They all complain about this, but it's one of the better features in my opinion. It's super easy to get in gear, I've never had an issue with it, and it looks a million times better than that big fugly stick that shoots up 2 feet in the middle of your cab. I absolutely hated that thing in my 5G Ranger.

You should see their Youtube review between the RRaptor and the ZR2. I've never seen a car review vid get ratio'd so hard, and they weren't all Ford fanboys tearing them to shreds either. Their journalists are horrible and so boring on video.

They’re not wrong about the trucks performance in gravel washboard. I just spent a week driving forest roads in New Mexico and the truck was down right dangerous on 30-40mph washboard gravel. My friends 15 year old Subaru Forester was better there.

I saw it today too.. complete fan boys of other brands and have hated all the positive reviews the Ranger Raptor has been clearly getting so they have to take to their own channels to say negative things to get click bait.. don’t be fooled guys, it’s all money related.
The RRaptor is hands down one of the best midsize trucks to be ever made I’m sure!

Can you elaborate? I haven’t driven much on gravel yet, I am waiting on some decent mudflaps before I get too carried away, but I did a few miles at up to 50 mph and the truck felt perfect (and way better than my LC200 with stock suspension and similar tires). What is the problem, and could it be tire pressure related? I am running 36 psi F and R. 50 psi would certainly upset the suspension….. and these trucks seem to be delivered with WAY too much air in them.

I agree about the @#$&* shifter, it pisses me off ever time I use it . It desperately needs a much stronger detent between Park and Reverse, I constantly put it too far, into P when I shift in that direction. I find that I always have to look at it to see what gear I have selected. That is just very bad engineering….

I am also so surprised by all the shifter hate. I love my shifter. So easy to get into gear and 100 times better than the previous model. I feel it’s so “informative” on the way it shifts cause I don’t even look at it and I know what gear it’s in just on the feel.
I have never liked the dial shifter either.. I’m tired of that design already. I have it on my other car and it’s not my favorite

Old person yells at clouds moment by OP. Its a review, people are allowed to have opinions. Its funny people get mad about others not liking the same things they do. They are not saying anything different then any of the other outlets.

• Every single outlet or person on youtube has complained about the shifter.
• Depending on needs, there are competitor trucks that are better in various ways, be it towing weight, back seat room/functions, mileage/fuel, etc.
• For off-roading, its been a mixed bag depending on what you are doing. 95% of the people owning this truck will only off-raod it in their yard hauling mulch, so whatever.

I certainly prefer this E-Shifter to the dial used in other Ford's, however, its kind of silly how it operates. The BMW design where you push forward for Reverse and pull backwards for Drive is much easier to use.

The entire chassis was oscillating so bad that you had virtually no control over the vehicle. This was at ~20-40mph over smaller washboard on a well maintained, but heavily traveled gravel road. Factory spec tire pressure at 39psi cold, probably would have been better at lower pressures, but IMO this truck should be able to handle things like that. To me it seems like this truck is over sprung for its intended offroad use. Like I said, we also had my friend's Subaru Forester on the same road at the same speeds and it maintained much better tire contact.

I didn't even make it halfway through the written review, but having watched the ZR2 vs RRaptor review previously I didn't expect much from them. I was used to the shifter within one test drive, it really isn't hard to figure it out. Maybe I'm just used to non-traditional shifters from daily driving a 2014 Grand Cherokee and an Audi A6 over the years. Or maybe its Maybeline

I can't comment on offroad performance since the dealer wouldn't let me hoon on my test drive, but the pothole filled Louisiana roads I was on felt way better in the RRaptor than the ZR2 Colorado that I test drove.

My favorite line in it was that the only "Raptor" part of the Ranger Raptor was how pillowy the ride was on the road. Like, what? Did they hit their heads before they started writing that article?

What drive mode? How much weight in the bed?

In my LC200, I would always lock the center diff on gravel, it made a noticeable difference on washboard, especially steep forest roads with tight turns…

Some washboard needs higher than 40 mph to smooth out the ride, try 50 if the roads allow it and there is not brush hiding the shoulders. I could tow my 24 ft travel trailer at 15 mph, or 40+ mph on open ranch roads, but not in between without it dancing around like something possessed.

The best solution is air down and use 4H.

The shifter rocks. Love the low profile aspect and find it very easy to use, plus it doesn't block the infotainment at all.

It is the way it is because the "parking assist" feature requires it, if you activate that feature the shifter will move on its own as it eases itself into the parking space. With a traditional PRNDL like the lower trims have, I don't think that would be possible.

[/QUOTEThey are NOT saying what others have said. They emphatically said the competition is better but didn’t qualify or justify that statement in their write-up. The shifter does not make sense but I am getting used to it. Call me old but wiser. I’ve seen some things.
