My experience with the first oil change- 2.3 FX4

Deleted member 9086

I wasn't taking a position about what SHOULD be done, but only about WHY oem's don't have break in oil change recommendations.

FWIW, I did a break in oil and filter change on my 2.7 Ecoboost at about 675 miles. I didn't send in oil for analysis and probably won't. I've just decided on oil change intervals of 4 to 5 thousand miles. I doubt that greater frequency will be helpful, and that testing in order to get longer intervals will be more inconvenient and cost the same.

Smarter people than me might do it differently.
In a few words; carbon credits…..??

My 2.3 is direct injection only, so I think more frequent oil changes are more necessary than the 2.7. I also think there’s oil analysis date posted in this group about the 2.7s.

Just did my FX4 MPC with a FL-2127 filter and the oil fill based on the dipstick was 6.0 qts

What's the thinking? Does DI only tend to cause more blow by and/or fuel dilution?

I do the filter removal and install from the top.
Never an issue.
Removing the wheel and skirt looks like a pain and more time consumed than needed.
Also installed a Fumoto drain valve on the oil pan.

This is for the MPC 2.3 which came out in mid 2025.

It seems like the oil change process is identical for both 2.3 though

Looks like the filter is in the same location as the 2024 based on the photos. The 2024 procedure is to also remove the skirt which is not necessary imo.
I might be wrong for the 2025 but sure look the same to me.

Again no it's not. Access to the filter through the wheel well is for the previous 2.3 not the MPC. You can now easily reach it from the top.

Why do people who have the old 2.3 feel the need to comment on the new 2.3 MPC? If you've never seen one please don't assume you know anything about it.

Why don't you go back and read the topic. Has nothing to do with 2025 MPC.
OP has a 2024 XLT.

Except it does. You assumed they are the same in response to my post. I had a 2019 so I know they are not but I was asking about the MPC. Anyone else reading this thread could be mislead if they don't know which 2.3 they had. So again please stick to what you know not what you think you know.
