I buy the made in Brazil filter whatever the brand because it's the OEM. Made by Mann-Hummel/Wix.

Got the same conclusion as.the YouTube guy.

Whatever cheaper and more available around you.

I threw a rod on my F150 and Ford wanted to see all receipts for the oil filters
and they were all Motorcraft then wanted to see receipts for oil and when it was changed

I understand the keeping of receipts which sometimes I'm negligent of doing.
So far I am only using Ford filters and oil while under warranty. Not sure if that makes a difference when it comes to warranty issues.
Can't oil change intervals be tracked in the oil monitor system if they really wanted to know what milage it was done?

TBH, I'm used to German premium cars, first Ford, and used to specific oil / filter checks. As long as I'm using the right spec oil filter and oil (not necessarly the brand) and I keep the receipt and logging when I do an oil change (and reset the interval), if they would use that against me, they would never see me back as a customer ever.

I would repair the truck and sell it away, and turn the page.

Honestly do it however YOU want. Just by no means exceed Fords intervals or get outside of their specs on the oil.
Doing a “break-in” change or 2 before 5K certainly won’t hurt anything and probably will only help, but who really knows.
Somebody could have engine trouble at 40K that’s over the top on their maintenance and then you could have the engine that gets zero attention and runs for 300K. Like the heavy drinker/smoker that lives to 100 and the triathlon freak dead at 55. Sometimes it’s a total crap shoot. But at least you can’t blame yourself if you do what you think is right and feel comfortable with investment wise.
Law of averages & opinions say 5K or 12 months max, factory Motorcraft filter (or equivalent), and a quality full synthetic oil that meets Ford’s specifications and you should be golden. I’m on the side of a couple of break-in changes before 5K so that’s what I’ve done, but I don’t preach it and don’t pass judgement on anyone that thinks it’s overkill. To each their own!
It’s your money and your investment so do it how YOU want to do it. You should know what feels like excessive on both sides of the spectrum so just settle into what feels good to you.
Just try not to be cheap, but there’s no reason to be wasteful either. My 2 cents…

3k / 6 months full synth... And I do so much custom work at my dealer. They are super cool. I think they would be on my side.

They’re bean counter engineers, there job is to always get you to spend money in the repair shop at the ford dealer.. After break in my OCI will be 4k miles
You have no idea what you're talking about. This is the same old parroted bs my dad and grandfather used to spout off about.

If you want actual data from scientists to determine what the best interval is for YOUR truck, send a sample in to Cat or Blackstone or whatever lab you like. Then send in another one on the next oil change interval. They'll tell you how much of the additive pack is left which is what determines (mostly) when oil should be changed. After a couple samples have been analyzed, you'll have a data driven oil change schedule that isn't a stranger's opinion on the internet.

Speaking of oil filters, where the heck is it? I expected it to be inside the ds front fender well just above the frame, but I sure can't find it. Unless maybe I have to remove the fender liner?

It's the cylindrically shaped canister with the Hex with a cross on top. This is a 2.7 but same location for the 3.0. Study up on the procedure.

Check out the similarities on this video.

Just did my first oil change and installed a drain valve.
IMG_0648.webp

The valve is a copy of the Ronin valve. Well built.

You will find that fat small “O” ring can be a booger to change out. See my post over at maintenance on how to change it.

Remember to use “clear flood mode” to fill the oil system.
Good luck with the chynese illegal copy of the Ronin plug that saved you $10.
