Today I spent another hour trying to find things in my electronic owners manual - it's frustrating. It's like an outline that they never came back and finished. I still have buttons that I don't know what they do and can't find them in the manual.

For those who bought the hard copy, is it any better? More complete, better illustration etc?

It's identical to the pdf here.
https://www.ford.com/support/owner-manuals-details/ranger/2024/ (Replace the year with whatever model year you have). It's waaaay better than the one built into the truck entertainment system.

The printed manuals you'll find online aren't printed by Ford anyway, they're just third party companies that print and bind this pdf.

I bought one for my Ranger and one for our Bronco sport and I use them often. I also like to take notes in them too, for example tire rotation pattern, or aftermarket parts added, FORScan changes, etc

The pdf is handy because you can search it. The web html manual is worthless.
I haven't gotten the search to find much. Searching for the "button on the steering wheel with the car driving on the train tracks" just didn't work.

I think learning the tcp/ip stack protocals back in college was easier than figuring out the tech in this truck.

Absolutely! It's thick as heck but for us dinosaurs it is well worth the money!

I like having a hard copy in my truck in case I have a problem and don't have cell service or don't have my phone readily available to view the PDF copy.

Finally had to resort to watching a video (does nobody write any more?)
It was the ACC following distance button.
The LIM button was another.
Two things I will probably never use....

Agreed on both counts! I will order one.

I purchased the paper one too ($60) found out it’s the 2024 version for the Ranger. To someone’s point above, at least I can write in it and put a few post-it tabs on the things I want to find quickly.

Yeah well after '24 we all do. Ford doesn't provide them anymore.
I would have thought a nice leather Zipper case like the SVT Focus had, or even a quality fake leather one like the Mustang GT or the Escape Titanium came with....but nooooo.

I bought a case from a Ford focus on eBay. Still fit perfectly.

The paper one is the same as the pdf version. I keep it on my phone and iPad.

Those 600 page paper manuals are a bear to flip around in. And I find the search function inside Apple Books better than the index in the pdf.

And as an added bonus, I can make the text really big. Not saying I need that but for friends…… 😀
