ProCal Tune for Ranger Raptors in California?

I’ll add my data point for costs on SoCal dealers install. I was at my dealer today, Price Ford in Simi, and they want $300 for the job, charging it for 1 hour labor. So I guess when I get the tuner I’ll be going somewhere else for install. Sigh.

@Caonguyenxxx, please explain what pre-staged means. I have my tune (Ranger Raptor) and I found an ASE mechanic willing to do it. What else do I need to do besides drop off the vehicle with tune in its original box? TIA

You have to log on to the website, register your VIN, then download the Tune Software Version to your Procal device.

I’m still on the fence as to whether I get this done when they come out with the 2025 version

my dealer said 2 hrs labor to install and verify/test it….so $400

plus the tuner

plus the added fuel cost for having to run premium gas

Aren't you going to be running premium anyway? The stock tune allows for boost and timing adjustments to match fuel octane. If run less than premium it will drop boost and retard timing and you will not be seeing full power output. Also, in very warm weather you will be much more likely to get detonation.

I’ve only had the truck for 10 days and I’m still on the original tank of fuel the dealer provided

guess that removes one of my decision points…and probably the most important one

I’m going to get the tune when it finally gets released

Also, the quote you got for $400 from your dealer for install is crazy. Over in the thread looking for installers in SoCal all of us have reported wild discrepancies between different installers. Note that Ford Performance only requires it to be installed by someone with an ASE certification and you then provide the info to them and register in order for it to be covered under warranty. So if you call around you are very likely to find a shop that will install for you for much less. Of course, if you don't care about warranty you can easily install it yourself.

Quick Update: Finally got a hold of Ken Grody Ford in Buena Park and said they will do it for $175. I have an appointment to get it installed next week.

Also every ASE I called to do the install asked "Why won't the dealership do it?" and "If the dealership won't do it, I won't do it. I talked to 6 or 7 ASE's locally and all of them refused to do the install. It's ridicules!

I know this is an old thread, but... I'm struggling to find someone local to do the install at a reasonable price.

Grody quoted me $400 today. That's nuts. And they were the cheapest I talked to.

Yup...your findings nothing new.
DIY - - that plain/simple, nothing 'magical' to install...
OR
Expect to spend unnecessary time and $$$

I can do it myself, but I don't have a PC, and don't have a burning desire to buy a Windows based laptop.

Still find it insane that dealers want so much to download and program a map. They aren't doing any actual tuning. To your point there is nothing magical at all here.

Had Gosch Ford in Temecula do mine. When I ordered the tune from Ford they had an option to have Gosch install it. It was $80 extra. That was in March of 2025 I believe.
