I just plugged in my procal to the pc and opened procal software. It found an update. I ran the update and it wrote the new file successfully. Not sure how to proceed. Do I reflash back to factory, then reflash the tune?
I found the below online. Anyone out there done this?

Yes, if you update your Ford Performance ProCal 4 device software via a PC, you generally need to reflash (reload) the performance tune onto your vehicle.
Updating the ProCal tool itself on a computer often wipes the existing files—including the performance tune and stock calibration—from the device, necessitating a complete re-installation of the tune to the vehicle.

ProCal 4 Update Protocol (Recommendations)
Based on user reports and to avoid having the tune erased from the ProCal device, follow these steps to ensure the update goes smoothly:
Return to Stock: Before plugging your ProCal 4 device into a laptop, connect it to your vehicle and return your vehicle to its factory stock tune.
Run Update: Connect the device to the laptop and perform the update.
Restore Tune: Once updated, connect the device back to the vehicle to save the "stock file" again (even if you just did this, the update often requires a fresh save).
Re-download/Reinstall Tune: Connect the device back to the laptop to download the performance calibration again, and then install it to the vehicle.

When was the last time you had updated the ProCal device? I only did my tune a few weeks ago so I'm assuming I have the latest...

I installed it three month ago. I just checked it today because I read online you should check it every 90 days.
It's been working fine except for a few things. If I'm on a downhill incline and dump it, when going into 3rd, it falls on its face, then recovers. The trans doesn't seem to know how to handle going through the gears on a downhill angle. Goes through the gears fine on flat or uphill. Another thing I don't love is, in normal mode, it holds onto gears too long during regular driving, like it does in sport mode. One last thing is I noticed my gas mileage has gone down. How about yours?

I don't have enough miles on the tune (or the truck) to really tell yet. Truck only has 750 miles, with ~350 of that being with the tune

What exactly does the update do? Does it fix issues, fix the ProCal devise and/or add more power or performance? What I'm really asking is it worth doing the upgrade?

Im not sure what it does. I guess I will be the guinea pig here and let you know if I notice any changes or improvements. Stay tuned. Ha Ha...

Generally, these update fix small glitches or introduce new enhancements. When I had my Bronco, I purchased the Procal tune. The first update reinitiated the Auto Start/Stop originally disabled by the tune, I was less than happy. I will not use Procal on my RR...

Be careful. I've heard of no updates to the ProCal tune but the tuning device does have occasional updates to the calibrator so it works with PC updates. There was someone here that updated the tuner then it bricked his truck when the tuner didn't recognize the new update. Since I have uploaded my tune, I will never update the tuner unless I am notified of a patch update to the calibration only. If I were you and you haven't updated the tuner, I would upload the tune again, drive it easy for a few days to relearn your habits and see if your issue goes away.

If there was an actual change to the tune, Ford would probably have to reapply for certification again. I have my doubts there is any real value in updating after the tune has been applied.

Ok guys, bringing you up to date.
After getting the update and writing it to the Procal, I went to the truck and plugged it in.
I went to the cal section. I saw that both original and performance tunes were listed. Then I selected performance and got a message wrong vehicle or no file.
Then I went to about in the menu, and it didn't recognize vehicle.
Then I went back to cal menu and tried again. Got message saying go back to PC and get update then contact support.
So I took Procal back to PC and reloaded the update and it wrote to the file like it should.
Then went back to the truck, plugged it in and went to cal menu, selected performance and it installed clean like the original time it was loaded.
I drove it around for at least an hour. Everything feels good and not seeing or feeling anything obvious yet except It seems to be shifting better.
You know, wouldn't it be great if they would post what are in the updates.

For future updates that may be important, I would suggest everyone at least download and install the Procal software in your computers and make sure the dealers registered the Procal to you. That way, you can avoid another bill from your dealers if you want or need to update the Procal.
Really sorry this reply was so long...

What you basically did when you uploaded the tune again was clearing all the adaptive learning tables. When I had my tuned 21 Ranger, I would reinstall the tune every oil change (5000 miles). The 10R80 was so temperamental after gaining mileage that clearing the adaptive tables made the transmission get rid of its bad habits. Drive it easy for 50 miles in Normal mode, then let her rip. The 6G transmissions seems to be a lot better but not perfect. I have the RR and have only reinstalled the tune once since new.

What do you think was in the update. It clearly uploaded it and wrote over the previous performance file. Then when connected to the truck, loaded a new file.
Sucks they don't tell us

It sounds like you updated the tuner not the calibration. The tuner is that thing you hold in your hand and plug into the truck. The calibration is what was sent to you to upload onto the tuner then to the truck. As long as the tuner is working, there is no reason to update it. Consider yourself lucky. Some people have bricked their truck doing what you did. Never let that tuner touch a PC unless Ford performance tells you to. I'd bring it with to the dealer if you go in for service, in case they need to return it to stock for troubleshooting because it's married to your truck. Always keep a battery tender on your truck when uploading tunes. If it drops below a certain voltage, it will brick the truck as well. I usually charge mine overnight before uploading the next morning.

I had the dealer apply the tune due to the warranty language. Applying an updated tune (should it exist) by yourself would probably negate the warranty, regardless of how much nonsense that is.
