This is with a Ford Performance tune or a a third party tuner?

The name looks familiar. I just found our convo on the F150 forum. You had the IPC that wouldn't update and you had to push via CAN. Fun times! I had to do that to my F150......twice. 12 hours of my life I will never get back. 😆
Ford Performance, a few post back i showed the differences in the two files. I was using the HPtuners software. I saved the original Ford Performance tune and then compared it to the new Ford Performance tune. Not a lot of changes, but there were some.

PCM OTA started going out to these trucks a few days ago. I guess we will know soon enough if this will or won't be an issue for tuned vehciles.

That would depend on what's and how it's done. If it's just writing a few lines of updates, it should be OK. I don't see them doing a complete re-write of the PCM just to fix something minor, in this case, an erroneous Check Engine (wrench) light.

I don’t believe they go through and just rewrite a few lines. I’m pretty sure they just re upload the entire tune even for just 1 line of code. If this is the case, that would rewrite the aftermarket programming and put stock logic back in

This is what I can tell you about PCM updates: Up until this day, any Sync 4 vehicles that is tuned and gets the PCM updated, the tune gets wiped. F150, Mustang, Bronco......the vehicle platform does not matter. The last time it happened to my truck, the PCM strategy was so new, Livernois didn't have it in their database. I had to pull the file with FDRS and send it to them so they can make me a new tune. So I flashed my old tune while I waited, and a few days later they uploaded the new tune to my device. I re-updated the PCM with FDRS and then flashed the new tune so the data matched up on the server side.

It would be nice to have the VIN of a Ranger that got this update to see what file(s) got updated or if it is just a config only OTA. Direct configuration only OTAs are soooooo rare, I highly doubt this OTA is one of those.

I'm not sure if it's been discussed here, but I ran into an issue when updating my Procal desktop software that resulted in the desktop software giving me an error of "Missing calibrations file. Connect to vehicle again." The same issue has been discussed on Explorer and Bronco forums, but I have not yet seen anyone mentioning it with regards to the Ranger. From those forum posts it seems like Ford's response to each individual was pretty varied and not everyone was able to get the issue fixed by Ford. Here is a link to a post on the Bronco forum, and here is a link to the Explorer forum if anyone has a similar issue and is looking for guidance.

I emailed Ford Performance a week ago and did not receive a reply. Not sure why this is still an issue since it seems like it's been a known problem for 2+ years. Long story short, it seems like the best practice is to avoid updating the Procal software or connecting the Procal device to a computer if you want to avoid this error potentially happening to you.
