Had to pay an extra fee when registering my Ford Ranger raptor due to "heavy vehicle" surcharge. Did some minor investigating and found the Curb weight of a 2024 ranger raptor 5325 lbs. In comparison the Curb weight of a 2024 F150 club cab 4x4 is between 4800 - 5000 lbs depending on trim level.
Only body part on my 25 XLT fx4 thats aluminum is the hood. Magnets don't lie! :like:

Despite it being somewhat heavy, I've found that my Ranger Raptor seems to be very nimble and quick. I feel like it's light and very capable of handing tough situations while my friends and their full size pickups seem to trundle along and my RR skips across the ripples so to speak.

Numbers don't lie but they can deceive. Even a couple of friends with Jeeps are envious of how light and quick my RR seems to be. It's a miracle of modern engineering how the RR is so seemingly light and quick where other trucks wallow along digging trenches and using up a lot of gas and energy trying to keep up with the RR.

So.... In summary you can sit and ponder the numbers or you can get out and find out just how far modern engineering has come in the past few years.

As Muhammad Ali would say.... "Dance like a butterfly and sting like a bee."

For sure. At the end of the day, who cares if it’s a little chubby. It’s a helluva truck. The engineer in me would love to see a breakdown of the various weight contributors, though.

Its still over 500lbs lighter than a F-150 Raptor which is tipping the scales at just shy of 6,000lbs and thats with the F-150 having the advantage aluminum body panels. Option it with 37s or the Raptor R, your closing in on 6klbs.

5863 lbs - 5325 = 538lbs Raptor vs. Raptor.

Also if your pro cal tune the F-150 the power gains are small, 16hp since the 3.5L is more tapped out from the factory.

The 3.0L gains 50HP peak and nearly 70-80 at some of the midrange.

Lower is Better (less weight to move per hp)

5325 / 455 hp = 11.7 lbs per hp Ranger.

5863 / 466 hp = 12.6 lbs per hp F-150.

Thats Ford Performance tunes on both so its as apples to apples as the two can get.

The RRs watts also really comes into play with handling vs. the panhard bar setup, especially when pushing the limits, the watts is far easier to drive at its limits.

That weight starts to matter in racing. The RR punches way above its weight class, especially with the Pro Cal.

Just some food for thought.

And as a comparrison point, all the mid size off road trucks are in the 5,200 to 5,400lb range.

On Car and Driver
ZR2 Bison is listed at 5283lbs
Tacoma TRD Pro is listed at 5390lbs
RR is listed at 5372lbs

Lion77 has it right on, power can make weight seemingly disappear. Even with just the FP tune 540 lb/ft can get a lot of weight moving pretty quickly. Add a real tune and the truck just scoots.

I had a 2020 F150 Raptor SCAB that weighed 5620 with a full tank of gas. Of course they stopped making Raptor SCABs after 2020.
MY RR has a full tank at the moment so Maybe I can get that to the scales later today?

Crawl under the back end of the RR and have a look at the material used for upper and lower control arm links--it's heavy material. Then, look at how the rear axle is reinforced for the Watts Link. Check out the size of the lower shock bolts while you are there. It's all built solid back there.

The RR is the only mid-sized truck with a heavily reinforced axle and frame. There are some reinforcements on the other mid-size trucks, but most of them run production axles, not a race spec axle. The suspension setups in the rear basically include shock upgrades and in the front slightly longer control arms.

The RR has a completely custom purpose built 4-linl + Watts. The Taco uses production 4 link + panhard with some coil over shock upgrades on their standard axle. The Colorado literally uses production leafsprings with some DDS spool valve dampers and hydro joince bumpers on a production axle and zero frame reinforcements which is why their race truck folded in half on the mint 400 coming off a jump.

None of the other trucks have CGI engine blocks either or oil cooling galleys in the pistons or steel ring inserts etc. (well not sure about the 2.7L Max in the Chevy, but Taco dowsnt). Thats all turbo diesel tech from the 6.7 Power Stroke thats built into the 3.0L, even the 2.7L is lacking some of it (no oil cooling galleys in its pistons, much thinner skirts and wrist pin areas vs. 3 0L).

God, I love it when people start talking dirty in car forums. Awesome info.

Funny thing is according to a post above the Chevy actually weighs a bit more than the RR.

I think a full aluminum upgrade would be great and a composite bed. Aluminum hood, doors, fenders, bedside, roof, composite bed liner.

I bet that'd drop 2-300 lbs easily.
