Spare Tire decision

Indirectly related: if you replace the stock wheels and tires with a size other than stock, you should replace the spare to match too so it won't be a different size than the other 3 when needed.

Use a 2 year ceramic wax on the wheels, including matching spare. Also apply graphene to the tires. Just do the graphene once a year.

Since I changed out the OE wheels on mine for Method 705s ET+35mm and decided to do the spare as well since obviously it would introduce handling issues since I would have different offsets if I need to actually use the spare, so kinda had to in that instance.

I have my tires rotated at the dealer when I get my oil changed. They only rotate the 4 tires. Front to Back. Back to Front.

How much longer are tires expected to last when doing a 5 tire rotation?

I never rotate the spare. Non matching rim tire and rim all different size but sized to match my original tires? Its that, a spare to get me to the next tire shop or set of tires.

I’d guess a 5-tire rotation would net you about 1/5th more lifetime (???since each tire would be off the road every 5 rotations) but that’s just the monkey brain logic, not based in any kind of scientific study.
I have mine rotated at oil changes as well, they do a forward-cross-to the back, so I just pull the right rear afterwards and swap it with the spare. That way the spare gets rotated in…and I can take a look at the under-bed winch system to make sure the whole things not seized into dysfunction when you actually need it.

I picked up a matching spare for my RR from Ford, it was only $120, and another $50 from Discount Tire for the TPMS. So spent about 1/2 the cost of what it would cost to replace the full sized K03.

From Discount Tire's website.... Although on my Subaru Forester I just do a counter clockwise rotation and everything is looking good after about 45k miles with the Geolanders 015's.

I did get a little crazy with protecting the spare so it won't get scratched up while under the bed, even though there is some rubber strips in the spare mounting locations. Just hope I don't have to deal with it along the side of the road.

A sheet of packaging foam salvaged from some package (or bought new for cheap) would work at least as well and be so much easier than doing this. But since my tire sidewalls stick out past the rim I’ve found I do t need either.
