Hello to all and thanks for being here.
Traded a 2021 4R for a 2025 Ranger XLT yesterday.
With the dive home I'm up to 45 miles :)

Why rid of the 4Runner? Wife wants a Casita. We pick it up in Rice Texas a bit over a month from now.
The Ranger I found was the most 'affordable' that I could find with brake controller integration (on the dash)
and advance tow package/technology package. We just think a pickup, even a shortbed one like the XLT is
more useful for the 'camping' lifestyle with chairs, tables, etc.

I wasn't planning on trading that day/didn't bring my check book so had to finance $5K....that's OK because
we got 4.9% interest rate AND we did the 10 year service contract on everything.

I've only towed my 6x10 utility trailer with my mower or Kaw Mule SX, so at most 2000 pounds. So I'll have a lot
to learn about towing the Casita.

Casitas are (the one the wife chose) listed as 2680 dry, so 3000ish pounds when loaded out (we come from decades
of ultrlightweight long distance backpacking so we don't pack a lot of stuff. But the Casita in question (Spirit Deluxe) is
tongue heavy. So I've instructed the dealer to order and install Timbrens on the rear and frame mount....just as insurance.
Also part of the Casita deal is an Anderson WDH and though a bit more time involved connecting it, we are believers and will
use it.

One thing we will have to have is a tonneau cover and I've decided on the Synteticusa MR with the low crossbars. We'll put
bike trays on the cross bars and our bikes on top of them....way easier than rooftop bike carriers and no bikes on the tongue
or dangling off he back of the Casita. If anyone has thoughts on this retractable tonneau I'd like to hear them.

Have you ever bought something for one thing (braker controller integration) and then you discover what you actually bought later?
Example, noticed when I got home, then googled FX4 Off-Road. Gimmick? Just a decal? Our 4R was TRD Off Road but like this Ranger it will
live on asphalt. In fact I tried the 'crawl' modes one time in the 4Runner to see it worked/never used it again. 4H did fine in 8-10 inches of
snow (the 4R was lifted by the dealer). I don't plan on any lifting of the Ranger....just don't see a need for its intended use. My only regret
about selling the 4R was I'd just put brand new K03s on it :)

I do have a Scangauge SG2 sitting here on the desk in a box. Figured it can't hurt to plug it in and have more info on the transmission
temp....dont know where to mount it though? Top of steering wheel column?

OK. Thanks again for having me. Never had a ford in my life so it will be interesting to see/experience what they've come up with.
Robert

Thanks and looks like a Christmas present of goodies I didn't even know about. Locking rear diff? I'll have to google to see where it is amongst all the buttons. One thing I'm also looking for is a cup/cap to put over the 4H 4L switching knob to keep the pooches feet off of it (miniature schnauzers, one of which prescribed by my doctor/service dog. I'm going deaf.

"FX4 Off-Road" is less of a gimmick than "TRD Off-Road" just in that Toyota uses "TRD Off-Road" as more of an appearance package that evokes the TRD Pro, the true off-road package, but they're about the same: rear locker, some screen/computer things, different shocks, etc.
The Sand is a great color! Really pops with the Black Appearance Package.

Thanks ATXian. I agree the black outs and the sand works well. Do you think the shocks with this Ranger will be a plus or minus when towing the camper?

People really didn't like the shocks on the 5G ('19-'23) FX4 Rangers, but there seem to be limited complaints on the 6Gs; I have not yet gotten a chance to do so myself, but I ordered my truck specifically to tow my Jeep to events, so I'm counting on it working out well.

Welcome Robert!

Diff lock is a touchscreen "button" on the off-road screen in the infotainment.. There's a secrets, tip and tricks thread that is worth a read

Drive mode covers - someone here 3D printed a "lens cap" style cover https://www.ranger6g.com/forum/threads/drive-mode-wheel-cover.11330/
Or aftermarket options for a full cover (assuming the "rest of the world" model fitment is the same) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006946032447.html

I ended up with a Synetic AR-pro cover. Very pleased with the build quality for the price. Held up to a couple good rainstorms without leaking a drop. Unistrut channel nuts fit the T-slot perfectly since I went with a different brand of rack.

BC Blue thanks so much! Dealer is to install the modular Ford Ranger bed liner, hopefully soon. Will my choice of the Syneticusa MR for Ranger work with this bedliner, your best guess is fine. Also thanks for the links above!

Welcome, my 2025 is being built in September. If you want to know any details on any package just go to Ford's Build a Ranger site and every package and option is there, just click on the info icon in the right hand corner of the package and a dropdown will appear with a list of what that package includes.

Which Casita did you choose? I am looking at them as well.

The Mrs. chose a Spirit Deluxe. Went with the 300ah lithium and 2000w Renogy inverter but know there is no intertie with the ac breaker panel and the inverter. To run anything from the inverter you have to plug something into it. Forum folk theorize it is to keep nuckleheads like me from trying to run the Mach 8 from it. We ultimately plan to removed the Mach 8 and put an Outequippro 12vdc air conditioner on top. I've never owned a Ford before so fingers crossed this little Ranger can do it :)

Thanks Scooter. Now this will sound crazy but the wife was looking at hybrid Mavericks yesterday while I was Ranger shopping. She brought it up at dinner tonight so that means she's jones'ing :)

I would look at the Maverick's under carriage.
Its just to flimsy for me. My opinion that's not a long term vehicle.
Ranger is so much more Robust. The Maverick is cute.
