Hello.

This is my first post. I ordered my Ranger XLT FX4 Carbonized Grey with the 2.7 liter back in May and picked it up last week. I'm really enjoying it so far.
In reviewing photos of other Ranger 2.7L, I've notice sound dampening on the underside of the hood. I don't have any. Am I supposed to have any? Do you guys with the 2.7 have it? Is it only for sound or does it provide any heat protection for the paint on the hood?
Thanks in advance.

My understanding it's it's included on Lariat and Raptor trim, it's kinda expensive to add on so I just used a 2008 Mazda 3 hood liner and it fit pretty nice after making a cardboard template to transfer the clip positions but it was a project

My 2025 XLT 2.7L has a hood insulator. Purchased in late April. March 28 blend date.

It's only required if you don't want the hood paint to prematurely fade and crack! I'm kidding but whos to say it might help with that

I just noticed I somehow opened this thread under external mods. It was meant to opened in general. Can someone please move to the appropriate forum.

As a buyer/end consumer I've always considered a "base trim" to have everything that is considered the running "standard" but lacking additional features that go beyond that basic ubiquitous standard. I'll give another example, the lack of hood struts on all trims shows that Ford choose to keep the difference in cost from the prop rod and prop rod clip which could be pennies per vehicle over providing something that should be now "standard". To me a hood blanket that would cost them no more than $5-10 per vehicle should be standard across the board and the lack of it screams cost cutting to me...

Now something added in higher trims like underhood LED lighting would be a great example of an additional feature that is both cost effective to Ford and goes beyond standard to add value to the end consumer. Having seen the vehicle now closely front to back I can point to where the pennies were cut from the BOM

Should be standard because YOU say so. Well, the Ford product team decided it isn't standard on a lower trim because THEY say so. If you want the hood liner on your XL you are free to go out and buy one than install it.

Yeah for a MSRP of $227 for the part I think I'll pass. Fortunately I made my own for free that surpasses the quality of the OEM specific part and still uses a Ford/Madza OEM part. As far as whoever at Ford made the decision, I believe they were wrong to not put it on every Ranger as standard

those usually are not actually noise/heat insulators. they normally are there in case of a fire. the plastic clips melt and the stuff drops on the fire to hopefully smother it. kind of like the plastic plug in the fire sprinkler system melting and setting off the sprayer

Did you get an answer from the dealer? I have the same "issue." I ordered an XLT 2.7 in June and delivered in September, and it does not have the sound dampening. I didn't even notice until I saw this post. From videos on 2025 Ranger XLT reviews, it looks like some have it and some don't.
