Warranty declined because of windshield change

I got pulled over because my 2024 Ranger reverse lights were on while driving down road. Took to dealer to have repaired and they declined the warranty for the repair. Truck has 30000 miles and has a 9 year extended warranty from Granger Motors. They said reason was because I had the windshield replaced and didn’t used Ford replacement glass. Safelite replaced it 2 years ago and only glass available was aftermarket glass. The dealer said a wire was shorted in the inside rearview mirror mounted to the the windshield. They said the installer didn’t get the wires in their holders and rubbed through. I paid them for the diagnostic and took truck home and opened the cover where they say the short was and inspected all wires and none have insulation rubbed through. They want $987 to fix but don’t see anything wrong. Even the dealer technician didn’t get wires back in holder correctly. They said they did but none were. Plus they didn’t even bolt taillights back in when finished. Saw that the next day and glad they didn’t fall out. Sorry for long post but pissed at Ford for declining a warranty when the repair of windshield was done by a certified shop.

Time to find a new dealer, and also contact Ford corporate. They are not allowed by law to deny warranty solely based on an aftermarket part.

Safelite replaces a LOT of windshields and most are not “factory” glass. Hell, most insurance companies won’t pay for OEM glass in most cases

I have contacted Ford customer service, kind of a pain because either by 1800 number or through Facebook messenger. Would be nice to have an email to send complaints to so you have written records and responses. I used messenger option and received a call back from them and they left a voicemail. Every time I try to call back they agent is never available and you have to leave a message. Phone tag going on and why I prefer email.

Is there a diagnostic code coming up? Someone has to have access to the factory service manual...

I would go to a different dealer, talk nice and explain the situation.

If I'm reading it correctly, they did not deny the warranty work because of the aftermarket parts but because the incorrect installation of the parts caused the issue.

I read it exactly the same way. That's a shop workmanship issue and the shop should reimburse you for it. I would get a report from the dealer, the go to safe lite and get them to reimburse you for the repair work for incorrect windshield installation because their faulty workmanship is the actual cause, not Ford's production line or engineering.

That statement to me implies they denied because of the aftermarket glass

Yes, Ford's position needs some clarification on exactly what work done by Safelite caused the issue you're trying to get Ford to address.

Sounds to me like a bogus Safe-lite install. If it's true what the dealer says.
I would think Safe-lite would have insurance for such instances.
Doesn't appear the dealer explained it very well.
Sucks when your caught up in between.
I would try and get a better explanation from dealer and present it to Safe-Lite and let them work it out if possible.
I'm like someone else said- what does overhead wiring have to do with reverse lights?

yeah dealer might ping pong their reason between install or glass or both or either. Or tell OP to have safelite redo their install.

Ha, yeah, I made my first big road trip in mine recently, about 2k miles (brand new truck) and a big something bounced off my windshield with a "THWACK"...I exhaled a loud "MF" of course and only found the smallest of nicks in the glass, was lucky but I knew it would happen early...just not that early lol. Damn Interstate Highways!

More reason to consider the external protection film on the windshield.
I started a thread on this recently.
I am highly considering it as I travel back and forth between Tennessee and California. My first windshield got sandblasted going thru TX, NM.

I got my Rockchip out of the way in the second week of ownership of my 26RR with like 300 miles on my truck. Luckily they just filled in the Crack and no new windshield.
