Had a friend give me shit yesterday for spending 50k on a ranger and told me I should be getting full sized if I'm spending that money. I told him the ranger should be able to handle of all my functional needs and I don't have to deal with the inconvenience of a larger pick up truck in regards to maneuverability and parking. The segment seems to have gotten to the point where it is pretty large size wise anyway at this point in for me just feels like it offers everything I want without the drawbacks that come from the larger trucks. Just curious what other people's reasoning was.

Assuming one is paying sticker, an F-150 of a similar trim to a midsize is like $10-20k more and F-150's still drive like boats. The commentary about price parity was only really a thing pre-pandemic when you could pretty easily get 25-30% off the sticker on a full size truck, but midsize trucks had far less discounts.

Obviously haven't driven the Ranger yet, but the new gen Colorado drives WAY better than any full size truck on the market.

Now going to a Ranger
It was just time to downsize.

I get this question waaay more than I thought I would. I love trucks thatā€™s plain and simple. For me, I like to off road from time to time. I donā€™t usually haul a lot of things but when I have to everything Iā€™m hauling fit pretty easily in the bed of my previous ranger. I just donā€™t need a full size truck. I love the maneuverability that comes with a midsize truck. Gas mileage is always a plus. Iā€™m currently in a Ram and while itā€™s a great truck I feel like Iā€™m driving a brick that gets 16 mpg.

Agree with the second comment...the features in a $50,000 lariat ranger would run you $80,000 in an F150 + higher insurance cost + more required garage space (or in my case, being unable to fit an f150 in the garage).

I've had people say the same thing to me and all you can really do is look at them funny.

simple, I have no need for a full size. Midsize does everything I need. If you know how to use it, you don't need anything bigger šŸ˜‚

Previous posters have spelled the reasons why Iā€™m choosing a midsize. I currently have an older, 2008 F150. Itā€™s been a great truck but I simply donā€™t need a truck that big. I tow a smaller (3k lbs) camper and the Ranger will do that without issue. Also, the older I get, the more I enjoy the creature comforts newer vehicles can be equipped with. The day I ordered my Ranger Lariat FX4, I test drove an F150 XL with the 5.0L V8. The F150 was nice, but very utilitarian. For the same price as the F150, Iā€™m getting all of the bells and whistles and all of the functionality I require.

No use for a full size. Haul motorcycles and use mine for yard work etc. More enjoyable to drive for me. Iā€™m pretty short as well as my wife 5ā€™8/5ā€™2 so they have always fit good for us short folk.

I got the Ranger Raptor because I want to go overland camping, and it was a lot cheaper than any of the other vehicles I have now. The roadstershop rs4 chassis alone for my 72 Bronco costed me more than the entire Ranger Raptor. Also, $60k for the RR is cheap compared to the $100k Bronco Raptor and $130k Raptor R.

Main reason...It will fit in my garage. Secondary reason...It is $20-30k cheaper than a similarly equipped F150 depending on how you define "similarly".

For $50k I can get the same engine (2.7L) on a smaller platform that happens to be exactly the same size as a 25 year old F-150. The question to your friend should be, why do you want the hassle of a massive truck when the Ranger can do every everything the base F-150 can do while saving $25K?

While I'm not ordering the Ranger specifically, I settled on a mid-sized truck because I want something that can fit in my 1980s garage.

I live in Hail Alley, after all. :p

I don't want a big truck. Simple as that.

I'd like the bigger bed size, but I don't want to drive around in or struggle to park some huge rig.
