So I’ve already put 7500 miles on my 2025 XLT, and I decided to do my first oil change.
I went to the autozone by my house and picked up 6qts of full synthetic 5w30 and the FL-910S filter that fits my truck, according to both online fitment checks and the autozone guy.
I drain my oil and pull off the old filter, no problem. But then when I go to install the new filter, it doesn’t fit. I mess with it for a few minutes before I pull out my calipers and measure about a 0.2” difference in diameter of the center holes between the filter I pull off and the FL-910S.
I call around to some other autoparts stores (O’Reillys, NAPA, Advance, etc.; didn’t call ford because this was a Sunday and they were closed), and they all told me the FL-910S is the correct filter.
Did some digging by googling the PN of the original filter I pulled off, which is 9C2E-6714-CA, and found people having a similar issue with their Escapes, which also use the same filter.
From that forum, I found that the FL-2127 filter is one I needed, despite what all the auto parts stores were saying. I went and picked one up, measured just like the one I took out when I compared them, and it fit perfectly.
Did more digging and I found some people saying the 2.3L for 2025 is completely different than the one’s in the 24s and earlier (despite the 24 having the new body style), and while I didn’t hear this from a credible source, the FL-910S will fit the 2024s and earlier, and the 24 & 25 valve covers look completely different so it seems to be true.
TLDR/bottom line: if you have a 2025 with the 2.3 and you like to change your own oil, everyone will tell you that you need an FL-910S but you really need FL-2127. FL-910S does fit earlier rangers, including 24s but not 25s.
