Only part I'm not super thrilled with is how the piece that I cut on the top kind of hangs out now and touches the upper control arm. Will probably try to think of a way to secure that back in place for normal use but still be able to disconnect it when changing the oil.
How about a 90 degree metal bracket (bent to the proper angle) mounted to the back of the felt with a couple of small bolts/nuts/washers?

Also, no, making 2 cuts with scissors is hardly "a lot of effort".

i wonder if it will be easier to just remove that little flap from the door you made? then you don;t have to add another attachment or have it rubbing anywhere.
