Yup, you do what you have to do we figure it out.

i was going off your first oil change at 1600 . Took mine to 17.5 Km

Smart to change the oil often. Has coated cylinder walls.
Yupp that first change was pretty black. 1600 ish for break in, 5200ish km, then again at 12,000 km ish. she at 50% oil life, and 17,918kms, so she's getting one soon, weather pending. hoping Monday. lol

69K truck after tax Canadian(got mine dealer order stock at MSRP, with a few addons worked into loan) I want this truck to last. royal purple oil changes, with the ford filter for warranty. changes are 5-7,000 kms roughly.

We are on Opposite ends of the country, but both live on islands on each end. lol more similar then we thinks. lol

So the filter looks to be in the same spot as the original 2.3 from the 24 ranger. That means it can also be done with no issue from the bottom. Thats good to know

Over thinking this, but if the FL500S has a larger capacity, would that result in a lower level on the dipstick?
Just thinking that more oil is contained in the larger oil filter as opposed to the smaller FL2127. Also, do you think the FL500S would actually be better due to having more filter surface area?
I changed the oil at 1550 miles, reached in from the top and changed the filter by hand.
Almost broke some teeth when removing the skid plate to access the drain. Slipped out of my hands, but only ended up with a busted lip (thank you Lord).

FL500S Filter.

I maybe wrong but i think the taller filter may cause problems when taking it off.
I would use a 1/2" Craftsman thick ratchet it could be a problem.
I would say thinner tools to remove.

I also think it would be harder to take filter of from the bottom.
Just use a step when going from top.

The large filter is going to hold more oil. You will just have to put more oil in.
Manual says 5.2L.

I think what's good is to get a 1L of the good stuff.
Then you are not busting into your second 5L jug to get the 200mL

I just purchased my stuff from Rock Auto. Filters: oil, air, cabin. Motorcraft.
Appease the warranty. I will only put Genuine Ford on my Ranger.

Some thoughts on my Ranger XLT FX4 2.3L MPC

Thinking of purchasing a warranty.

Warranties seem to generally go for 10 or 12 years. I wanted more then that.
I put 126K KM on my 13 year, 4G Ranger. So, going to do a 20 year, 200K KM warranty.

There's just to much fail safe things and components that get used a lot.

The gear shifter and key position has many features.
Cool though.
I remote start with Fob to warm turbo up. Fun trying to get it activated.
I fell you have to see the car when it starts. Can be done from a good walking distance from car.
If you see it you know it has been started. Side fender lights stay lit but hard to see.
Love the light flash when starting.

So, you have to put the key in. No push start. Wondering if that makes it harder to steal. Trucks running all ready. Then all the interfaces. The Dumping down of Society fail safes.
I think mine should have the putting it back in park. Have not seen that work. I guess i know how to operate a vehicle. That has so many things to interface with.
Power mirrors are cool. Have that setup to close when shut off.
I test drove a Ranger. The mirror made a cracking sound. Like on some gear.

The Brake hold system is very nice. Luxury.
Just think that get's over used. The rear E brake is put on every time you park the vehicle.
That concerns me the holding. I could see someone unfamiliar with the setup being frighten by it.
Lurches of a bit then rolls. I will examine the rear brakes more often. Clean them regularly.

I may let the truck sit in the Summer and just insure a motorcycle. Concerned about moisture.
Just a side story, my 4G Ranger had this small brake drum inside the rotor for E Brake.
Hard to even buy good pads for it. When left sitting I had a couple of times the shoes sticking to the drums. The Last time I pulled the pad material right off the shoes. Ford that engineering really sucked. You had to take the axle out to get to it. I gave up and just ran the truck with no E brake
Standard tranny.

Just too many more things on new Rangers. Probably the price of a Ranger hybrid would be unaffordable for me. I think its just more to go wrong if vehicle kept for along time.

The FL500s taller by like an inch. If you think that’s a big deal then that’s on you cause it’s not. The manual says 5.5qts. That’s what i add or a splash more and I’m always at the top of the hash marks. And there is not a problem taking it off. Plenty of room for filter wrenches or a ratcheting wrench if you have that style.

took mine into the stealership yesterday, had the oil changed at 1,196 miles. I'll now go to a 5K mile interval at this point. You only get one opportunity to change her, when she's a young engine. sure, yadda, yadda, new engines don't.... "forget" that. I changed it....

I found it easiest to change the 2025 2.3 filter from the top and it wasn't even close. Just get a stool, reeeeeeach down in there, and twist it off. Ain't nobody got time to be removing fender liners when it's so simple from the top down

When I first got my 25 2.3 and was doing my first oil change months ago, I looked at the fender liner method and immediately said, "nope, not doing that." Was a lot quicker and more convenient to just get a foot stool and reach down in there and get it out from the top of the engine bay. Super easy.

Note to first-timers: make sure you put a catch pan under Ford’s filter-oil drain path. First vehicle I’ve ever seen that does this. I also loosened the filter and let as much as possible drain out before removing it. Finally, don’t forget to clean up the drain path when you’re done. Kind of a PITA!

Subaru is the king of friendly oil changes. Ford could learn a thing or two from them.
