I noticed another post that said that orders were closed until they resolve the J Brace recall issue. I didn’t think there was a recall yet, but looked it up. Turns out there is an active Customer Satisfaction Program for this issue. My guess is that they are routing J-braces to assembly and will launch a full-blown recall after they have line-of-sight to enough inventory to cover production and the recall. The TSB was issued in Feb, but I didn’t think it was a formal CSP back then. The order book delay implies that maybe there will be a change announced soon.

Thanks for the update, I guess that explains why my order from three weeks ago is in limbo, with no updates.

It’s been a CSP thing from the beginning.

This has been a CSP since Feb 2024, before any trucks started being delivered.

Here it is mentioned in a Long McArthur video from 4 months ago, with the same campaign #:

and here's the thread we discussed it in:

https://www.ranger6g.com/forum/threads/j-brace-to-stiffen-front-corners-of-the-box.8768/post-147109

Like mentioned in that thread, the "CSP" likely only covers the free J-Braces when you purchase an official Ford topper. Ford isn't going to sell you an accessory for $5k that has the chance to break your truck without those braces.

Here's hoping the delays are due to a running change involving the inclusion of the J-braces.
I can handle the extra wait.
I wasn't too keen on having to hack off the corners of factory sealed metal to facilitate the installation of them.

Just received the braces today which I paid for with Ford points. I was able to request a line item in the sales contract with my dealer that they take on the cost of the install if I ordered the braces with points. This whole thing rubbed me the wrong way after dropping this amount on a truck to have to tear into it, even though I'm plenty capable.

Frankly I don't have much faith in this local dealer to perform the install - it wouldn't let me select the dealer for install from the Ford site when I ordered them.

The "guess" is nice but until this becomes an official recall my assumption is this continues to be an exercise in self sufficiency unless you're buying a $4k-$5k topper from Ford.

Well the dealer I was talking to told me today they won't be placing anymore Ranger orders until the J-Brace recall is addressed. Apparently some dealers are refusing to install them because you have to cut some stuff.

Not really. Maybe 20k trucks out there right now, which is only a $5-7M recall at cost. That’s less than it will cost them when they have 200k trucks on the road in a couple years and the beds start collapsing. That type of clearly visible customer even impacts more than just the Ranger product line.

I know I will never have a cab on mine but will get them installed when the recall happens.

Hmm, I'm scheduled to have them installed on Friday. I wonder what this would mean for me.

Why is this being called a recall when there aren't any recalls listed for the trucks?

A CSP is not the same thing as a recall. This sounds like one dealer saying something that no one else is aware of.
