I just picked up a new Ranger Lariat 2X4 .Love the truck .But...I live in So Cal near the beach and do a lot of city stop-and-go driving I don't drive like grandpa but I'm not heavy on the throttle by any means nor on the breaks for that matter . On my second tank of gas I recorded my odometer millage at 211.8 then drove mostly around town for a few days and filled up again at 391.0 Mi on the odometer. It took 13.35 Gal to fill up again. I'm showing 13.2 Mi/Gal average. OMG that's horrible !!! I could buy an old used gas guzzling behemoth truck and probably get 14/15 on that that!!!! The sticker says 22mpg combined city/highway .I get that and was expecting to get less .But 13.2 .REALLY??? . I did not expect it to be this bad!! Am I calculating incorrectly? Anybody else experiencing millage like this? Very disappointed at the moment...

For whatever it’s worth, on my RR I was only getting a little over 12MPG on the first three tanks of gas. After that it started to slowly improve. After having the break-in oil changed I’m now getting just a little south of 20 daily. I happy with that for RR.
I don’t know if that is the norm but that’s my experience.

Thanks for your reply. Are you driving mostly city millage or something else? Also did you go with a full synthetic for your oil change?

Remember CA gas gives you a hit in mpg's, but it costs more so its kind of a win win.

Most of us with the same truck seem to be averaging 20-24. I'd give it a few tanks and then either reset your truck's MPG calculator or do it by hand.

I fill up with 91 or 93 octane and do a mix of city/highway and my truck currently says 21.5 mpg. Total odometer mileage around 2.7k

I did get full synthetic. I’m about 50/50 city/highway

Reset the mpg and see what you get after a week. My 2019 with the same 2.3 never got lower than 18 at the worst with very spirited driving with a tune.

Better milage than my 2020 tacoma at 1400 miles. I'm impressed with my mileage.

When the Truck is new, It's doing all kinds of weird stuff. check it after 1000 miles. If it doesn't improve, you might have a leaky injector or other problem.

I agree with everyone else, during break-in your mpg will not be as high as after engine break-in and all the learning the computer is doing. I have also noticed, especially after putting larger tires on my XLT, that using the ECO mode keeps the turbo from making a ton of boost during acceleration from a stop. You can actually accelerate without using any boost if DO drive like a grandpa. Not as fun but certainly better on the mpgs!

Also remember that lots of idle time can impact gas mileage.

Our Raptor in mixed town/2 lane highway driving runs 18-20, with a high of 22. That’s only getting into the gas pedal occasionally. It eats way more gas fighting wind or towing. I had 6 mpg’s driving into a 40 mph wind at 70 mph towing a trailer. My friend who has 5th generation 2.3 was very surprised in our Raptor with mileage, I’m quite pleased with it. 1st and 2nd tanks were similar to what we get now. I really watch it on break in, driving stop and go , easy on gas and don’t do jack rabbit starts for the first 100-150 miles, then a bit more for the first 500. Hope yours gets better soon.

Thanks to everyone for your replies/support. I will monitor and report back after break-in and oil change. Which seem to be the biggest factors effecting milage without changing driving habits. Wasn't aware that the computer is learning during break-in. Dang computer and tech. lol
Expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised when things work out better than I thought! Is how I will approach this.

We also have a ā€˜23 Maverick hybrid and we don’t use it in the winter, it’s stored indoors with the battery disconnected. Talking about the computer learning during break in, I think, no knowledge or technical skills to back it up, that after reconnecting the battery and driving it around where I could drive on streets and roads without being pushed along by traffic. I’m getting 2-3 mpg’s more than I did last summer. That took 100 miles or more to happen .So I’m wondering if a battery disconnect on the Ranger would reset things???? If I were you, I’d research that well, check with your dealer before doing anything. Before we got our Raptor, I read something about having premium gas in it during break in, I checked with the dealer and even though the Raptor will run on regular gasoline, they thought that premium gas would be better and our gas mileage is good for such a higher performance engine.

Damn my RR has 150 miles on it so far and I average 17.5 mpg. Hopefully it’ll improve a little.
