Also remember that lots of idle time can impact gas mileage.
my two-cents-worth, knowing little about engine mechanics.
,,,,and idle time counts toward oil change interval miles. Some suggest change oil every 200 hours, or possibly less if usually run for short trips. Full synthetic has increased some of those intervals. According to Ford 1 hour idle time= 25 miles. Some motor builders suggest 1 hour = 60 miles.
One might be surprised to see just how much idle time is used, especially if you remote start to warm up or cool down the truck.

Good info. Going to research the premium gas a little bit but my gut tells me your right! I did put premium in on the 3rd tank and will continue to do so until if and when I find out otherwise...

I just picked up a new Ranger Lariat 2X4 .Love the truck .But...I live in So Cal near the beach and do a lot of city stop-and-go driving I don't drive like grandpa but I'm not heavy on the throttle by any means nor on the breaks for that matter . On my second tank of gas I recorded my odometer millage at 211.8 then drove mostly around town for a few days and filled up again at 391.0 Mi on the odometer. It took 13.35 Gal to fill up again. I'm showing 13.2 Mi/Gal average. OMG that's horrible !!! I could buy an old used gas guzzling behemoth truck and probably get 14/15 on that that!!!! The sticker says 22mpg combined city/highway .I get that and was expecting to get less .But 13.2 .REALLY??? . I did not expect it to be this bad!! Am I calculating incorrectly? Anybody else experiencing millage like this? Very disappointed at the moment...

That first tank of gas the dealers usually give you usually only looks like a full tank on the gauge. That is, they fill it only to make the gauge hit the full mark. Usually 2-3 gals less than actual capacity. That makes it harder to calculate milage. Rental car companies sometimes do the same thing. Some vehicles do need a short period to adjust but my XL STX 4X4 is running 21 combined. My '22 Maverick did 25-26 combined all the time. Looks like I am getting a high of about 390 miles per tank. 13.5 is too low. I could squeeze 14-15 at 55 mph out of my F250 Triton V10. Lots of little things affect gas mpg. Type of tires, etc. If you add a couple psi to your tires you can even squeeze out and extra mike per gallon or a bit more. Conversely if your tires are under inflated the opposite can be true. Are you making lots of short trips? Fuel injection has improved gas used on start ups, not sure about GDI, but if you make 10 one mile trips I suspect starting your engine 10 times will use more fuel than making 2 5 mile trips yet you drove the same distance. Btw, new tires have increased rolling resistance so after they break in a bit you might pick up a fractional improvement too. I personally try to remember to turn off that goofy start stop thing that shuts your engine off at red lights. I hate it! I don't like the jolt. I don't care what they say about starters that can handle it. It is in essence a emissions control device above all else. I drive on mountain roads. I also read that some pick up trucks can get up to a 12 percent increase in fuel economy with a tonneau cover. I am gonna give that a try. Even the brand of gas can affect mpg... stale gas at cheap stations can lower it. Another big factor people often overlook is terrain. Hills or rolling terrain eats gas. You can mitigate it to some extent by decreasing speed to 60 from 65 or 70, get a feel for familiar terrain and use only enough pedal to crest the next hill and let gravity take you down the slope if it is safe to do so. Using your AC uses extra gas too. Those big beefy tires and wheels people add can cost you extra gas. The size of your load too. But, no 13.5 mpg is not acceptable, however measure you mpg over a few hundred miles vs short trips under 50 miles.

Our Raptor in mixed town/2 lane highway driving runs 18-20, with a high of 22. That’s only getting into the gas pedal occasionally. It eats way more gas fighting wind or towing. I had 6 mpg’s driving into a 40 mph wind at 70 mph towing a trailer. My friend who has 5th generation 2.3 was very surprised in our Raptor with mileage, I’m quite pleased with it. 1st and 2nd tanks were similar to what we get now. I really watch it on break in, driving stop and go , easy on gas and don’t do jack rabbit starts for the first 100-150 miles, then a bit more for the first 500. Hope yours gets better soon.
I had to reset the average/mpg display. Now shows real time mpg. Much better now average is 22-23 and best was 30 mpg.

Average was 15mpg from day one only city driving. Dealer disregarded any issues said keep driving it, at 800 still 15 ish mpg. the last two days I was highway driving 300 miles got up to 20mpg.like you all said that first 1000 miles a learning curve

You mentioned something i completely forgot about. I did add a tonneau cover on my RR after a few tanks. Ive heard that can help on GPM’s but I just didn’t think about it at the time as gas mileage wasn’t the reason I added to cover.

Damn my RR has 150 miles on it so far and I average 17.5 mpg. Hopefully it’ll improve a little.
Thanks to everyone for your replies/support. I will monitor and report back after break-in and oil change. Which seem to be the biggest factors effecting milage without changing driving habits. Wasn't aware that the computer is learning during break-in. Dang computer and tech. lol
Expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised when things work out better than I thought! Is how I will approach this.
I had the same concern with my 2024 Ranger XLT FX4 4X4. I had 1400 miles on it and avg/mpg was 18.6.
Reset the avg/mpg gauge and it immediately up to 21mpg. Highest freeway mpg
was 25. Hope this helps

I reset the avg/mpg and now I'm getting 15. When this tank of premium gets low I'll manually calculate and report the results

You probably would have been better off with a Hybrid Maverick for your type of driving and expecting decent MPG's. The use of premium fuel is just going to lighten your wallet faster than any gains from using it.

It’s probably harder to drive at moderate speeds and avoid faster starts off of red lights in most major metro areas. Lots of stuff is working against you, how traffic lights are set up, time of day and amounts of traffic and other things, terrain, etc. I’ll include a picture of my best ever gas mileage with our ‘23 Maverick hybrid. I’m fortunate enough that we have the Maverick too, we don’t use the Raptor as a daily driver, but mostly as a tow vehicle and a travel/ off road expedition vehicle. We find that the Maverick meets our needs VERY well in most situations. A caution with my picture of the Maverick’s mileage, we’ve had hybrids for 16 years and with more experience you gain insight into how to squeeze more mileage out of hybrid vehicles. Many hybrids are computer mapped to get better mileage in city driving vs most ICE vehicles that get better mileage on highways. Happy motoring and wishes for increasing mpg’s with your Ranger.

This tank in averaging 12.8MPG on the trip computer (reset every tank). Sometimes you just get crappy MPG.

RR - 18.9 avg mpg per the display, since delivery. Currently around 4,800 miles.
Commuting in the metro area during the week and more highway miles on many weekends driving to N MN lake home. Not often real hard on the pedal, but not babying it, either.

Same experience for me with 4x4 Lariat but after 900 miles and third tank of 87 octane the mileage started to rise. Currently 21-22. I have now started to play with eco vs standard. Currently getting 24 on this tank. I will admit to being very smooth on accelerate and braking with minimal idling to see best possible eco results. 60/40 split on city/highway. No hills to speak of. I’m east coast based.

I've did a lot of short trip in the city on this tank and it was only saying 15.5. After a single trip with freeway of about 20 miles each way it went up to 18.5

I'm just at 1000 miles and about to do the first oil change.
Hoping that helps. I think Iwas about 20 on my only longer trip. Very short trip's def seem to eat up the gas though.
