That's good to know -- IMO, never understood why people would remove that side panel, air in the engine bay is warm.

BTW, this intake is supposed to show up tomorrow. Can't wait!
I'm running it with no side panel. It's an intercooled engine, not naturally aspirated, so not as susceptible to heat soak. Not going to argue this with anyone. Google is only a search away.

You aren’t really gaining anything with the panel on. I think it’s something like a 15% difference in flow and no extra noise. With the panel off it’s a 45% increase (if I remember the specs right) plus tons of turbo noise.

FWIW I have a Wagner intercooler, but with the panel off/on vs stock the delta in IAT vs outside temp was about the same in all situations and it’s been like 90-100 degrees here.

I was the one who posted on Facebook with the CEL after installing. I talked to S&B a week or so ago and confirmed with them it’s a real issue, but only on 2025’s. For 2025 there is a code that wasn’t monitored on 2024’s that checks the PCV flow.

So a TLDR of sorts:
  • Only effects 2025’s
  • Does not happen on 2025’s with the side panel installed. Will definitely happen on your 2025 with the side panel removed
  • Not an issue in any configuration with 2024 trucks
  • S&B are working on a fix, which is most likely a revised PCV plate to reduce the flow back to OEM levels to get around the code
  • With the side panel removed there is much more flow through the airbox, which in turn pulls much more from the PCV, making it think the hose is disconnected, causing a code.
This is great info. Thanks for posting. I have a 2025 and it looks like my intake will stay in the shipping box until they come up with a solution for this.

Great info, glad I'm still watching this thread. I have my side panel on, so obviously no errors. RE: the comments on the side panel off, heat soak, etc. it's interesting that S&B specifically states this on their website:

"Our silicone edge trim provides a protective seal against unwanted, power-robbing engine heat and debris." 🤷‍♂️

Def not trying to poke the bear, just wonder why they state that if not an issue...

Where do you see that quote about the edge trim on the ranger raptor intake page? I can't find it. NVM, just found it. Looks like boiler plate they post on every description.

Heat soak is more an issue on naturally aspirated engines than on intercooled engines. Hence why in the install video they even say to leave it off unless you are in an exceptionally dusty environment.

I'll leave this here in case you haven't seen it, its kind of hidden on the site on a little link but i'm assuming the secondary inlet is "that Cover on or off". Pretty drastic difference?

Wow, yes, quite the difference indeed! I've emailed customer service. Will leave it on until the fix is ready. Guess I should think seriously about an IC upgrade as well...*sigh*

Fwiw, I'm running it without the side panel. I haven't really pushed it to hear if it's louder. But I can say on my commute to work I got .3mpg better lol. So that's a bonus. Acceleration does feel a little smoother when using a quarter to half throttle.

With the side panel/plug open does this reduce your wading depth ?

I would say yes. However, I don't think I'd trust the waterproof-ness of the panel in place either. There is a drain hole at the bottom of any water does get into the box

I got mine over in the UK and fitted this evening. Does anyone else find the hood doesn’t close as well as it did with the stock airbox? I think it’s the rubber on the underside of the hood where the S&B inlet sits slightly higher. Attached some pictures to show what I mean. Might trim it off a bit

No issues here. Are you sure it's seated flat in the OEM holes and not sticking up a little?

I wonder if there's an alternative fix - ex. coding the PCV's airflow expectation with Forscan

It’s the bonnet strut hitting the intake.. I had the same problem and had to get other ones that attach in different locations
