Ya know, that's probably what they should have started off with if they actually wanted widespread adoption of EV trucks. Glad to finally see someone listening to the consumers!

If that truck wasn’t so dang gum big I would have probably bought that one.
Went from looking at an electric truck to buying a mid sized race truck on steroids.
Have to admit, I’m glad I did.

That article says 2027 for a midsize truck. So a ranger will be hybrid/electric, finally

I read that as fully electric midsize truck starting in 2027.

The Ford Universal EV Platform
While we shift F-150 Lightning to EREV, we are absolutely maintaining our plans and investment in the next generation of affordable EVs. The new Universal EV (UEV) platform is now more important than ever for Ford. UEV platform development is well underway. This flexible architecture will underpin a new family of smaller, more affordable, and cost-efficient vehicles—starting with a midsize pickup in 2027.

$4 billion invested in Ford EV and PHEV paid off by raising prices on gas burners becomes EREV, diesel electric locomotive and Chevy Volt technology. Possibly to counter the 2027 EREV Ramcharger. Well, the article also mentions a midsize in 2027, so maybe that will be an EV Ranger. Or a hybrid. Or an EREV. Or who knows what Ford corporate will do since Ranger is not a priority now?

I wouldn’t rule it out

“By 2030, Ford expects approximately 50% of its global volume will be hybrids, extended-range EVs and fully electric vehicles, up from 17% in 2025.”

https://www.fromtheroad.ford.com/us...s-trucks-hybrids-affordable-electric-vehicles

the problem i see with the current Ranger hybrid is that it is underpowered as a full electric truck and uses the regular eco boost instead of a more efficient engine

so it is really the worst of both worlds.

that’s why ford is going to an extended range electric vehicle for the next f150 lightning.

where the electric motor provides all of the power to the wheels and the internal combustion engine is just for charging

hybrid makes the most sense in a vast majority of regions. EV, where i live, is ridiculous with the range loss in winters. Now that the EV mandates are dead(for now) i think more companies will ax the EV push. Once the subsidies go away, they are not as affordable as people want

Not to mention charging anxiety with some drivers constantly watching the charge level and not the road. Or 80 miles of range when towing. Not everyone got tax credits either, and then there is trade-in. Look at all the used EVs out there. Now ask yourself how the owner treated that $15K-$20K battery and only charged it to 80% every single time? The first Tesla are at end of expected life right now, so they would be one gauge for resale and battery replacement.

The best of both worlds will be the same setup in a Ranger or even better a RR.

well you can see the charging history of a Tesla and you can assess the health of the battery.

I would compare that to buying a used car. Did the owner really change the oil frequently?

range anxiety exists for gas vehicles too.

if you charge your ev at home your pretty much set for your day

not so with your internal combustion engine Vehicle.

granted towing range has not been great for the f150 lightning.

I thought it was a poor choice as a vehicle to be fully electric.

I personally think we are going through the trough of the electric vehicle hype curve so Fords scaled back plans for pure ev vehicles seems smart but ultimately it’s going to be important for auto makers to have a solid ev presence so Fords continues on with their euv program starting in 2027 with a midsize pickup has a lot of merit.

and I thought what was lost in the discussion was Ford committing to a a new internal combustion truck and van family starting in 2029.

“Tennessee Truck Plant: On the BlueOval City campus, the Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center is renamed Tennessee Truck Plant. The facility will produce all-new Built Ford Tough truck models with production starting in 2029. These new affordable gas-powered trucks will broaden Ford’s truck family and extend its market leadership, replacing the previously planned next-generation electric truck.

What do mean on this part? the electric one is good if you are driving around town. If you have to go to a further town, like we do, the electric is a no go.

Its 150 miles from my house to san antonio. A tank of gas gets me to san antonio and back, even with driving around san antonio shopping before coming home.

That is the main killer for an all electric car to me. No big towns are close to me so i need a hybrid or gas. San antonio is the closest, next is brownsville and mcallen, then laredo, austin, and houston.

I really like the electric idea, its just not ready for places like south texas. Though lots of people have them as second cars here for staying in town, which is about a perfect set up.
