@Raptor Family I have some questions about the larger fuel tank. When you fill up what does the gauge say on the dash? Does it work at all? Say you drive 200 miles, will the gauge show empty?

Have you calculated anything with the larger tank yet? I usually reset my trip meter when I get fuel so I guess you could keep track with that.

I would also love to here more about what it is actually like to live with that larger tank. I too would really like to know what the gauges are actually showing when you have added the bigger tank.

I just installed the Long Ranger 37-gallon tank. Fuel gauge works, but it takes longer to come off full due the size and shape of the tank. I have 150 miles on the tank after filling up for the first time and the gauge came off full at about 130 miles at 17.6 mpg computer on this tank. I will be using the trip meter to monitor and probably fill up at a quarter tank this first time and half tank next time to get an idea of how many gallons are left at each.

I spoke to ARB USA about the possibility of importing one of the Frontier tanks to the US but they are not federalized or approved by the EPA so that is why they are not selling them stateside.

They also said the frame and suspension is different on the AU Ranger Raptors which is why most of the other accessories have not been brought over but I cant find another source for that claim.
I have the ARB Dual battery kit on my na ranger in canada. had to order it from Australia, fit near perfectly, had to clearance notch a bracket by about 1/4-1/2" As part of fords globalization plan started with the ranger. parts from aussie land are suppose to fit ours, and our parts fit theirs.

Just genuinely curious ?

That’s really odd , the math behind that claim indicates your getting over 28-30 mpg out of a 2.7L EB Ranger.

I am mainly curious because many report the 2.7s getting closer to 20mpg.
The 3 Lariat 2.7L trucks I own are all getting right at 19-21 mpg.
Our functional range with ours is more like 300 miles.

My Raptors both get 14-16 mpg. Giving them a functional range of around 275, maybe 300 if you like flirting with walking . Lol
I'm getting about 20mpg too. If I only do hwy driving I can squeeze 24, but with my heavy foot that is just not doable. I wish I could get 28-30....

i bet you guys could hook up forscan and turn off the dte and then it wouldn't be so bothersome. you would just have to drive old school and know you have a quarter tank left, time to look for a gas station

I don't know why but, I just like all my gauges to work properly.
It would set off my OCD to have a gauge showing me total BS info.

That is not the problem; before adding the extended tank, when the gauge read a quarter tank remaining, it was about 5 gallons. With the 35 gallon tank installed, a quarter tank is about 20 gallons remaining (the entire original tank volume). The actual tank volume does not register with 1/4, 1/2, or even full.
If you re-fill at 1/4 tank, you are not using the added capacity—why even get a larger tank? You are missing the part, when the tank reads empty, there is about 10-15 gallons still in it. Now, we can do math; at every fill up, reset the odometer and on 93 octane calculate about 500miles to the tank. So when you reach about 375miles on the odometer, that is about 1/4 tank, time for refill.
The tank was advertised that the fuel capacity was able to be modified—that, so far, has not been true. Had I known that before hand, that Forscan would not adjust the tank level, and there was no work around, I could have tried something different. I believe knowing when it is empty is far more important than knowing when it is full. I’m thinking about pulling the tank back out, removing the pump/sensor module, and bending the float arm down to about 1/2” from the bottom of the tank. My idea is that bending the arm down will make it read “full” for a long time until it is about 1/2 tank. But, when it reads empty—you are empty. Maybe at the last bar on the gauge, which might be a quarter tank, refill. It is possible even the refill reminder might work close to being correct. On some newer f150 trucks, with extended fuel tanks, they have added intercept modules that intercept the fuel sender signal and modify it to create a correct reading on the fuel gage and DTE—maybe someone will make one of these for the Ranger Raptor. Maybe someone can figure out how to change the tank volume in the ECU—now that it has been hacked by companies like HP tuners, Cobb, etc

Exactly!! When it reads empty, do I have 15 gallons, 5 gallons—or am I on fumes? how can you plan a trip when your fuel gauge doesn’t reflect almost half the capacity in the fuel tank? You can’t.

Very helpful!
Great info!
Thank you for the detailed explanation.

100% agree, if its flashing I am out of fuel and DTE 0 and still 10-15 gallons in the tank, that would not be good at all.

Especially for me.

I have multiple vehicles and trying to recall if it is really on E or not would be very difficult to keep track of or depend on. Which would sort of make that extra capacity pointless.

Is it that the fuel capacity data in the truck's computer needs hacked into, in order to change it, is anyone at the company that makes these tanks actually working on a fix for this issue?

Or is it simply something that will never happen?
