Anyone know the best way to adjust a hood to fix gaps and stop wind flutter?

My white 25‘ model RR has a pretty good gap on the leading edge of the driver side of the hood.
Tried adjusting the stops several times. It really catches a lot of wind and makes the hood bounce or flutter a lot at interstate speeds 70-85mph , gets really bad when going into Kansas 20-30mph head winds.

Can’t seem to compensate with stop screws .
Driver side all the way down , passenger side all the way up.

My 24’ model RRs hood has always been well fitted, and rock solid least very solid compared to the 25 models hood.

I wondering if the bolts where hood attaches to hinges if those are adjustable forward or back if I loosen those ?

There’s a TSB with a guide for the hood latch adjustment. That will get you back to factory specs. Then adjust the fenders from the top bolts, and the engine mounted bumps for the fender to hood line (and keeping the hood off the headlight)

I think you need to adjust the latch. There are 4 rubber stops two near the latch two out towards fenders. Screw them down until you can push down on the hood and it lines up. Then get a pencil and 8mm wrench. Mark your latches location, loosen the bolts and move it down equally on both sides in small increments (tighten back down of course on each try) until you remove the slack and make sure your hood release still pops it up nice and easy. Or your dealer can adjust for you or should at no charge if you want to wait! :sunglasses:

As far as the wind flutter goes, my hood is adjusted perfectly and the hood flutters at speed for sure. I've gotten used to it. I think it's just a result of thin lightweight metal.

Wow I literally took these pictures yesterday to start a similar thread, funny!
  • appreciate confirmation about the flapping, this has always bothered me and I wondered if it was related to the positioning—I guess not.
  • Sounds like my hood should align better than the attached pics? As in, most peoples look like the ‘24 hood from the original post?
  • I’m about to install hood struts which I’m unsure if will help / improve / not affect these issues. Any thoughts? Was hoping it’d help the flappage…
Worst part is I already had it adjusted by selling dealership. I should know better than to trust these places to care as much about details like this as me, would rather do it myself.

My 24 is pretty spot on and rarely moves in the wind, the alignment looks really good both sides
Its tight and seems very buttoned down.

After yesterday’s little 3 hr road trip in the 25 and seeing the hood bouncing around like crazy to the point a couple times I was a little concerned it might launch off the truck. I decided I needed to try again to figure this out.

Last night I did spot these adjusters on the hood itself.

After countless tries open adjust close test , repeat.
‘Using the 24 setting next to it and studying its adjuster settings, and sorting out a way to test it.
I think I have made some decent improvements.

Still need to test it in the real world to really know if I made any improvements.

Here is setup I ended up with.

My issue is similar but different. lol. The drivers side sits higher in the front than the passenger side. But the rear of the drivers side sits low. Like it needs to come up about 1/16-1/8. I did not notice the stops on the hood itself. So I will mess with those next. I did not that from factory the passenger stop on the rad support is much higher that the drivers yet it sits lower and closer to the headlight assembly.

Damn, seems like the QC is pretty crappy here.

In my case I think the hood actually needs to come forward ~1/8", just looking at others' pics.

Can anyone confirm? I think that would require adjusting the brace back at its attachment point, here:

As opposed to these which look to me like they wont allow forward adjustment:

Hate to have to bring it in for this 🤬

I think I have figured out that if the hood isn’t supported by those stops that it’s more prone to float around and flutter in the wind.

The test I figured out last night essentially was if I bump the forward corner of the hood with palm of my hand I could create or simulate the wind buff that caused the hood to flutter.

With the 24 I could bump either corner of the hood and it felt solid and no flutter across the hood.
‘With the 25 if I bumped on the passenger side it felt pretty solid with minimal reaction accross the hood, but bump the driver side and I would get a flutter all the way across the hood. You could tell the stops were not supporting that side of the hood.

I started over cranked all the stops all the way down did a visual inspection of alignment of the hood, then started adjusting and testing all 4 stops little by little till I got to a point it looked pretty good with gaps and alignment with the fenders and felt solid and felt like it was supports by all the stops and I could do that bump test and not get flutter out of the hood.

I do still need to take it out on the interstate and get it in a real world test to be sure , but I think I at least made some signifiant improvements.

Thanks for this thread. Was able to adjust the bump stops and get my hood near perfectly aligned.

Did do some real world testing on my 25 today, including an automatic car wash with high power air dryers at the end. I think I got it dialed in pretty good with all my efforts the other night.
No hood bounce or flutter even in that car wash test.

I did have it on the freeway today as well , and at speeds in the 70s no hood movement. However didn’t have the strong headwinds like I had on Saturday.

Vs the side fenders, my hood left side was ~3mm lower and right side was ~1-2mm lower. So leveling the hood involved increasing the hood stops by 4-6mm to level out since the rubber needs room to compress. I noticed the same driving to work today: no more hood flutter.

From another thread, ended up tightening the screws for the rear seatback bumpers as well and it also made re-latching the rear seat so much nicer than before.

Well, unfortunately for me I think—and maybe this sounds crazy—that my front quarter panels are the problem. Just looking at the gaps, e.g. around at the a-pillar and where quarter meets the bumper next to headlight, it's like theyre ~1/8" off. I assume others do not look like this 😑

It's obviously "not that bad" but Im kicking myself for not seeing it earlier. Will see if dealer can make this right, my hopes arent all that high...
