Very high oil temp on interstate, XLT 2025 2.3 MPC.

Nomadic Ranger, The oil temperature is determined by cylinder head temperature among others I don't recall but if you're still concerned. My mechanic said if you're towing up a steep grade give it less throttle otherwise let'her buck. P.S. nerdy mechanic likes 2.3 MPC in the truck but not for the Mustang.

Good to hear, I need more nerdy mechanic friends haha, my concern was this was not towing, cruise control, and flat (technically downhill going from the flatlands to the beach) and at night with temperatures around 70. I’m getting an OBD2 reader before we head back because I’m used to older trucks and if they climbed that high on their dummy gauge just crusing I’d be worried.

I’m not sure. I’ve messaged Ford about it but it’s a little high for “low stress” cruising.

Let us know what Ford says. As I mentioned, mine does the same thing.

Nerd, Is a mobile mechanic that did my recall. He was happy to answer all questions being a self proclaimed nerd. Like shifting into 2 high while in slippery mode it allows you to do it, but he said it's not a good idea because it may re-engage 4 high at a bad time and damage the transfer case!

I have a 2025 XLT with the 2.7L and never see anything about the halfway point. If I were you I'd get a unit to plugs into the OBD2 port and monitor the actual temps

I have the 2.7 also. Even towing in hot weather in hilly areas my oil temp never goes above the midpoint.

They're different engines obviously, but I wouldn't expect higher than average temps for what looks like a very low stress environment.

Totally agree. Best to get a gauge to monitor actual temps.

Reddit has real good info on 2.3mpc specifically with high oil temp. Talk's about computer algorithms,and Dealership mechanics calling Ford headquarters and finally Ford engineers saying it is not actually that high of a temp and nothing to worry about. GOOD NIGHT IRENE!

You’re at roughly 1,500 miles. Have you thought about doing its first oil change early? And switching to a high end full synthetic. My 3.0L Raptor ran a bit warm when new. Enough that I noticed and I decided to do an o/c at 1,300 miles, then 3K, and now recently at 5K (now I’ll settle into my typical 5K max or spring & fall intervals). I switched over to AMSOIL full synthetic and still run factory Motorcraft filters.
The temp gauge now settles in perfectly in all scenarios be it around town or extended rips on the interstate. It actually settled in after that 1st change at 1,300 miles.
And yes, I know an oil change would have nothing to do with coolant temps, but I’m just telling you/everybody what I experienced. My truck needed to ‘break-in’ and get that first run of oil out and then she settled right in. That 3.0L seems to love the AMSOIL as well. My last 3.5L Eco in my previous F-150 seemed to like it (0 engine or coking issues in nearly 140K miles when traded in) so I figured keep on using it.

Send a sample of your oil to a lab like Blackstone for analysis at the next change; include the tbn to measure how well the additive package is holding up. Only worry if the science tells you there’s something to worry about.

I’ve used Blackstone Labs on other vehicles i’ve owned, great company.

My 2025 work vehicle 2.3L without the tow package runs that hot all the time. My 25 2.7L with the tow package never goes above midway.

My 2.7 runs just even with the bottom of the oil can with the climate control on, with climate control off it actually runs a bit hotter and goes up to the top of the oil can. My coolant also runs hotter with the climate control off, by about 10 degrees per my Scangauge III. The reason for this, I read, is because with the climate control switched off, the shutters close.

Temps are normal in town and when driving around 55mph. On interstate for 3 hour road trip with speeds 70-80 and the temp gauge pretty much held this constant until we went back down to 55 and it slowly went down.

I’ve seen post saying it’s normal and that ford says high temps are normal, but good lord man it’s almost in the red!

Today I drove about 650 miles. Houston to OKC then back down to Dallas. Obviously all highway.
I have a 2025 XLT FX4 2.7L with the Advanced Tow Package. The temps (engine and oil) never went about 1/2 way.

never have i turned on the oil temp readout but i did so this morning just to see. i drive between 60-70mph on my commute to work over a 45 min drive not stressing the truck whatsoever. 2025 2.3 MPC engine here. highest it got was maybe a couple marks above the icon itself so def over halfway but a little less than what the OP had posted from his picture.
