Per MotorTrend regarding the BRaptor:I looked at the Bronco forums and it looks like the BRaptor uses the 10r60. I assume the RRaptor wouldn’t be any different, especially given that it’s the same engine but slightly detuned.
I agree that Port and Direct injection is an upgrade, but I don't think the 2.3 really has any issue with direct injection only. I've checked the valves on my 21' ranger twice now and there was little to no accumulation at 50k.The 2.3 is enough for anyone using the truck for it's intended purpose... that being said I'm taking my talents to the 2.7. I want more power without a tune because... I just do. I'll also be running larger tires than stock. It should sound better, and I think the 2.7 has both direct and port injection which is a huge benefit imo.
A catch can would be cheaperadding a throttle body port injection system would solve the issues on a 2.3 for not much money
many companies create aux fuel systems that accomplish that for the 2.3 platform
but may not solve it entirelyA catch can would be cheaper
Just curious how you would check the valves for carbon. You would still have to take off many items to even view the area with a camera. Was a shop doing this. Is this recommended from Ford to check this. Carbon should not be a problem if you are putting the motor through a correct heat cycles.I agree that Port and Direct injection is an upgrade, but I don't think the 2.3 really has any issue with direct injection only. Depends on the catch can and how you install it. Some cheaper catch cans only trap oil blow by during idle. If it’s plumbed correctly, there will be constant vacuum and should catch most of the blow by during all stages. Even if it’s not perfect, it’s more than enough to delay whatever power losses you’re likely to get from buildup many tens of thousands of miles longer.but may not solve it entirely
stuff gets by catch cans and unless it drains back into the crankcase, you have to empty it
I removed a sensor on the intake plenum and was able to get pictures of a valve with my borescope. Ford doesn't have any sort of recommendations regarding the intake valves. You need a different dealer because every part of what he told you is wrong. Every dealer is getting one Raptor allocation. But that doesn’t have anything to do with the 2.7L because the Raptor comes with a 3.0L. The 2.7L is not yet available for order and no one can tell you for sure when it will be available.Any word on when we'll be able to order a Ranger with the 2.7? My local dealership insists that the 2.7 will only be available on the Raptor (!) and that they're not getting any Raptors on allocation.
Oh, I'm sure the owner is keeping the Raptor for himself if they're getting one. But WHY would they think that the 2.7 is only going to Raptor? This crew is more honest if somewhat less informed than the last crew that owned this dealership, and I'll take ignorant honesty over knowlegeable dishonesty any day of the week and twice on Sundays, but it's still irritating. You need a different dealer because every part of what he told you is wrong. I don’t buy things from people that don’t know about them. What’s the point if they can’t answer my questions correctly. An ignorant plumber might be honest, but honest doesn’t fix my pipes.Oh, I'm sure the owner is keeping the Raptor for himself if they're getting one.
