2024 Ford ranger XLT FX4 2.3L POOR STOPPING DISTANCE.

My father in law has an fx4 xlt and i have a 2wd stx. We have the same brand and model of tire, goodyear wrangler terrain, something like that

The difference is his were 255/65/18 and mine are 255/70/17 so the difference is shorter sidewall so the tires don't flex as much. So they should actually stop better in fx4 wheels.

It's because Ford put cheap organic pads on the truck. I'm going to upgrade mine to semi metallic pads.

That's the consensus on ceramic pads? I ran ceramics on my focus and they were amazing. I loved the lack of dust on my wheels and corrosion left behind if not cleaned regularly. I was going to swap to ceramic pads but I guess I will do more research before making that decision.

If anyone has any experience on our trucks let me know.

Same issue with the 24’ Ranger Lariat.

This Ranger stopping issue has been noted in various national car reviews as being the worst for all mid size pick ups. It is not new. It is a given.

My 24 Lariat FX4 Ranger is the same. I have to almost stand on pedal to get it to stop. If you resolve issue Bulldog36526, let me know.

same problem and the dealership can't figure it out, see my post about 2025 ranger brake problem. sometimes it has brakes then other times you have to stand on it to barely get it to stop.

You need to take yours to the dealer to refresh the EBB brake system.

The poor stopping distance . This truck doesn't like to stop. What are the brake pads from? How can I improve the stopping distance?

I agree stopping distance is very bad, even from a 15mph to zero. I do alot of city driving and it's getting on my nerves.

I noticed the first couple posters have FX4 trims so they have those crappy wagon wheel tires on them. Tires make all the difference in braking performance. I'd bet a regular Ranger with the regular tires stops better than an FX4.

you would be wrong. a brand new truck with new tires should stop appropriately. with all do respect, I shouldn't have to do a gym leg press into my breaks to emergency stop.

I'd say the Raptor's one failing grade would be the brakes. Just charge a few grand more and do better.

It's almost a fully cohesive driving experience, but the brakes let it down. I suppose all trim levels would be a bit lacking, in this respect.

EBC pads will indeed help, but they can't replace more pistons and the more leverage, surface area, and mass provided by increased diameter rotors.

As for tires, that's more about when they let go than overall braking system performance. To a point. When they get big enough, you can indeed run into problems slowing them down.

That would be after modification, though. Off the lot, performance is already sub-par.

I've got to share this; we had our '24 STX 4x4 in for a minor issue and I mentioned the mushy brakes to a service manager. He told me that those are "learning" brakes and as they "learn" more about our driving styles, the better they will work. And, he said that with a straight face too.

Yeah, they have training seminars in that, no doubt. He had the exact same reply to my question about hard shifts from the transmission. And, our SYNC4 will be working better "as it gets better updates"...

As we walked away from his cubicle, my wife asked me if I believed any of that BS? I laughed so hard, everyone there looked my way! I should have asked the guy if he had a mirror handy, I wanted to see if I really looked that dumb.

My wife has a 2019 Ranger we bought it brand new with brakes so mushy they went to the floor
I didn't drive the truck ever Till one day I drove it and ask how long has the brakes fade to the floor

She said since new I took it to the dealer 3 times and they told me it stops fine . I got Forscan and did a ABS bleed about 4 times without draining any fluid just let it buzz the peddle All good now Fixed . Why didn't dealer do that ?
