I have some friends that use the overhead racks and they really like them. I just can't get used to the idea of the rack failing while I'm using the RR for what it was designed for and getting a gun whacking me in the head while I'm driving.

The behind the seats is a good idea but since a RR driver's seat moves back and forth as you start and stop I'm wondering if that would work.

By the way do you have a link for the ones that hang behind the front seats?
" ... but since a RR driver's seat moves back and forth as you start and stop ..."

It doesn't move when you start and stop.
My apologies…. I definitely misread….

🦖
You didn't misread. To most people, "start and stop" suggests stopping at a stop sign or red light and then moving forward.

He meant "shut off the ignition and turn on the ignition." You read correctly.

Thank you very much! I guess I should have looked for myself but sometimes it's just easier to ask someone here. Forums make technology so much easier than it used to be and I'm starting to use AI more and more too.

Yep! Agree, sometimes it's just easier when a passerby (person or program) already has the answer ready. Then there are the weirdos who spent too much time playing language lawyer. Lol.

For gee whiz, you can also set the key fob single-click to only unlock the driver door, and double-click to unlock all. That's the default for Toyota, so when we got my wife's LC250, we immediately turned off Easy Exit and set single-click unlock all. Any sense of security needing double-click is false.

You ever thought of just mounting a pistol or does it need to be a rifle. A SBR might be a little easier if a rifle is a must.

I'm a deer hunter and often the deer I shoot are running. A rifle is way easier to hit with on a moving target that may be up to 100yds away. Pistol hunting is ok in a stand or in very heavy brush where shots are usually under 25yds.

We often hunt deer with hounds here in NW Florida and often it's imperative to get your rifle out and in action quickly. I've been laying it on the back seat on a blanket where I can quickly yank open the back door and just slide it out but that's not a permanent solution.

That system where it rides on the back of the two front seats that was first pictured looks perfect for my use and I'm just hoping for a link.

If it’s the picture I posted, I posted a link. It’s about six posts down on page 2

Sorry I missed that. Crazy week... Thanks for the info.

They're so cheap it's hard to believe the quality is very good. Have you tried or used them or do you know anyone that has? I see the Amazon reviews are very good.

I haven’t used it. But I ordered one to try it out. I figured for the price, if it isn’t worth it, I’m not out much.

Not sure but I might wait to see what you think and yet I'm afraid they'll raise the price. Please let us know as soon as you have given it a go.

Like with lots of things I went a different way. In these trucks, you're not "hiding" a rifle in the cab from anyone looking, period. The seat storage is too small and behind the rear seat you'd need a toy .22 if anything is going to fit and even that is doubtful. So, hide it in plain sight.

Now before I scare people, I do some things just to see if they can be done and how far they can go in practicality. I am not running around with this setup but it was fun to piece together/max out a doomsday scenario.

And since this was a late night beer discussion and "what if," I had help - group project including but not limited to, Google Gemini.

This isn't going to keep out a determined, equipped thief, but then again not much can.

That said...

Pictured here is a Smith and Wesson folding pistol carbine in 9mm (MRS optic, vertical MLOK foregrip w/light&laser), 5 magazines (109 rounds if my count is correct), a S&W M&P 2.0 Aluminum with 3 additional magazines/68 rounds (mags can be shared between them), ears, small tool kit, small cleaning kit, and some other small accessories.

All of this is accessible from the driver's seat with a blind one-handed (right) draw and setup (not while driving but theoretically could) in about 10-15 seconds from closed/folded, (that's really what the foregrip is for) depending on how ham-fisted one is. Maybe 25-30 seconds total for added suppressor. Magazines can be "labeled" by textured tape for subsonic. The fully loaded bag weighs under 20# but I have not put it on a scale.

Times are guesses because although it might seem I shower wearing camo this really was just an exercise.

It's a "normal" looking 18" tall backpack (smaller than what many students carry around every day) lined with mesh so it is slash-resistant, surrounded by a steel wire top loading bag which will take small bolt cutters to remove and it would be cabled around the driver's seat frame. It also has an optional level III armor plate in the laptop sleeve.

The top of the bag can be unlocked when in the vehicle (unless certain passengers are present) and locked when absent. It'd be easier to break through the locked tonneau cover than to get the bag open or out. And since it sits in the floor well, maybe even would be passed over if it is even seen.

Fully reproducible with a bullpup or compact shotgun (shot or slugs). Or even a short barrel AR with .300 AAC if that is your choice.

I have both center console and rear seat console vaults, which is where people might look but those just have things like tools, Procal/code reader, first aid kit, etc.

I never plan to use this unless camping away from civilization, maybe.

I only wish, up here north of the 49th we're limited to rifles. And they have to be trigger locked and out of site if were not in the vehicle. I have a remote cabin that I spend most of my time at have had to shoot one problem black bear in 20 years but it did make me realize I have to have a gun with me. Attached a couple pics bears were noon today and cat was Sunday evening.

Or in reality, a g-force jawbone w/foldable stock and sig romeo stowed in a normal backpack within reach of those knowing how to deploy it…. I like your movie idea.

If we're talking reality, carrying a pistol like that across state lines can create lots more problems than the FPC which is a rifle.

Depends on which state lines you cross. If you plan to transport any firearm over state lines, you need to know what that states laws are concerning the carrying and transporting of firearms BEFORE you cross the state line.
