My 2024 2.7L runs almost exclusively on 87. At around 3k miles I ran a couple tanks on premium for a section of a road tip and only noticed a 1.5 mpg difference. That is nowhere near enough improvement to justify the cost, and I did not notice any change in performance. I’m always within 1500 feet of sea level and not in an area prone to extreme heat.

At around 8k miles I did see an improvement in mpg (roughly 2 mpg) which I attribute to edge break-in. I changed the oil at 1k, and 5k miles, so I feel like I’ve taken great care of the engine and allowed it to break in properly.

I am running my 2.7 with 91+ and a 20 ounce bottle of Chevron Techron every oil change.

I know people will say I am wasting my money and snake oil yada yada.

My last car (Honda) had clogged fuel injectors after only a few years of ownership. I also don't live near a good Top Tier fuel gas station (Wawa/Royal Farms nearby) but I will try when I can.

Running low octane the motor will just detune the performance a little if it detects knock
I run high octane for that little boost in power

This is what I do as well. Run exclusively 91 and a bottle of Techron now and then. Cost is meh.

Here in Colorado we have 85, 87 and 91. If I have to pay extra over the regular grade might as well make it 91. Plus Costco only sells 85 and 91.

I have about 8500kms on my 2.7. I have always used 91. The difference in cost at less than 10000kms a year is not huge. When I get the factory tune the 91 will be required.

87 because the performance benefit of 91 is non existent in mild climates. It's all about engine knock. If you're not at high altitudes, don't live in crazy temperature climates, or aren't towing anything then anything above 87 is a waste. If your engine isn't knocking at 87 to begin with, then adding anything higher won't have any benefit.

Just completed an 8,000 mi cross country trip with my '24 2.7L and ran 87 octane of whatever brand I come across. The one consistent thing I did discover was that any gas with alcohol dropped the mileage about 3 mpg. If I ran gas with alcohol, the mileage might be 19, and that would jump to 22-23 mpg with a fill-up of regular non-alcohol gas. Best mileage I saw was 25 at speeds of 70+.

Truck has only run in sport mode, 94 octane, we have 94 Sunoco all over. And when HP supports 2.7 Ranger strategy, another MPT PRX tune.

Nothing but 93 for mine. I work from home, so I don't drive much. I do tow an RV from time to time and only run 93 for that also.
