Any Recommendations for my Wheel and Tire Setup?

Hey guys this is my first post here so far and i’m excited to hear everyone’s feedback. I recently got my Ranger (this is my first vehicle that i’m going to modify) it’s a XL 4x4 with the STX package. I just ordered a 2.5in leveling kit for the front and have seen videos of people having 33in tires without any trimming or other modifications. My main concerns are how much will my gas mileage be affected, will i be stressing out the drive train, and whether I would need to cut the truck up. Additionally I would love to see what set ups others are running and hear some of your stories. Thank you!

Suggest you do a search under this topic… all the concerns you raised have been answered multiple times.

I don't know how much your mpg's will be impacted or how much additional strain you'll put on your driveline, but those modifications WILL impact the vehicle.

But if your offroading requires the higher clearance of bigger tires and a higher lift, then so be it.

I'm curious what you're trying to accomplish. I see lots of interesting modifications, but too few explanations about the WHY. It's your truck and your money ... I'm just trying to learn.

Yea for me it’s a daily driver that will take me to all of my destinations but the reason O got the truck was so I would have the freedom to do more activities I enjoy. I love the outdoors so going on a trail and having fun or simply hauling toys and hopefully a small trailer camper in the near future. The reasons for my mods are mainly aesthetic but they do give some performance boots all around but they come at a cost. I’ve seen plenty of people run 33s which look great but I know it’s not practical. I’m a ways away from deciding on what wheels and tire I want and figured the community knows best. To sum it up it looks great and will help me do more.

I added a 2.5 inch superlift level and then added 275/70R17 Toyo Open Country RT's with no rubbing at all. Stock 17" wheels.
You will need the level with that size tire or it will rub. I've seen quite a few add 265's with no issues at stock height. Hope this helps.

Is there a considerable difference? I did think about taking that avenue further down the road whenever I graduate with my engineering degree.

Your post was actually what brought me to this community so it’s full circle now, but I guess my main concern since I daily thus truck is how had it stood the test of time. Posts like yours have made me think that it’s gonna work out good but I’m on the fence about full sending a set of 33s if the truck behaves differently. A lot of threads talk about install but I haven’t come across any mentioning the post install and experience.

@bogarma I’ll share a couple a couple of earlier posts that I've made on this topic below. I'm currently waiting on BDS Suspension to finish their design and testing of a 2.5" leveling suspension lift (not just a spacer; new shocks, coils, top hat, and differential relocation bracket). If you do the lift in the manner which you are going to create downstream issues. Whatever you do decide to do, make sure you have your alignment checked afterward. I am currently running 32.1" x 10" tires on the FX4 suspension without any rubbing.

Hey Bogarma....not much difference in noise, although there is some with these tires (I like it though). The handling is pretty much the same. I drove it to Tampa from Raleigh with zero issues.
My MPG before the lift and tires was 21.2....I'm at about 19.5 now.
As far as performance, I don't feel any difference. I think it feels great with the front end higher. Feels more like a full size truck....if that makes sense.
