Wheel hop will definitely break stuff. The hrab, releaae, grab, release is very hard on splines and gears
Never have figured out what causes my wheel hop when going from a stop at semi-full to full power, but it's pretty intense. Runs fine otherwise and at speed on-road.

In your previous post, you said it was happening when you were offroad in 4wd, are your diffs locked?

Its just a traction issue. I had a 65 mustang in high school that would do ot all the time from a light with very little pedal. I added traction bard to stop it but you may need different tires or something like that

Old school traction tricks wouldn't work on this setup, these are 4 linked with watts link for lateral axle control. Leaf sprung applications had really bad wheel hop thanks to axle wrap flexing the springs, so that's where traction boards come into play. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised that there's a weak link somewhere in the modern system that can be improved by the aftermarket

There are only two spots that I can think would generate wheel hop on this platform: compliance in the bushings/mounts on the links or the tires themselves finding traction intermittently. The second option has a lot of other contributing factors (surface conditions, flex of the tread blocks, uneven distribution of additives within the rubber itself, etc)

All I know for sure is that I have experienced any wheel hop ofln the stock KO3s, and I've been doing a lot of launches in 4HI for data logging. I get uninterrupted spinning for the first 10 ft, and then it gits gone. Currently e50 tuned

I'd suggest looking at your suspension components and verifying none of your bushings look shot

Nah, suspension, tires, etc all good. Low miles, etc. The conditions are desert, deeper sand, with high wheelspin in 4WD upon hard acceleration.

Nathan,
Sorry your thread got side tracked. Could you tell us how daily driving, mileage and other plus/minus of owning a tuned truck in the real world is? The rest of us can learn a lot from your knowledge.

Hell, I don't mind, now I've got caught up in this wheel hop issue, keeping popcorn handy like waiting on the next episode of the Raptor Housewives. @nappy Do you have your differential locked when you are hopping? If you answered that, sorry, I missed it. Only time I've had any wheel hop was with diff lock engaged.

Speeding is the biggest issue. All these new vehicles...for the most part feel like the speed limits were set for 1980's cars. You know how like whatever you're in, it has a speed it likes to go, like it just feels right at that speed, unfortunately for me they want to cruise at 85-90. Short interstate on ramps, you either end up way out in front of traffic or locking it up to fall in behind them.

Feels factory, except just more power. I'm 45, started driving on hardship license at 14, never had a speeding ticket. I've gotten two this year, and both times on the interstate accelerating to get around another vehicle riding in the fast lane so i could get over for a semi on the side of the road. You jump from 70 to 95 as soon as you press the pedal, don't have time to slow down and then those beautiful LED's are behind me.

The white that I started this post with, is now over 700rwhp, so it's a lot worse.

Fuel mileage...no idea. If I actually tried, as efficient as we've did the build, it would probably get great fuel mileage. But I can't stay off the gas pedal.

Sorry for drifting off topic (again), but you seem to have a lot of experience with torque questions. Do you think driving these in 4A all the time and being a spirited driver, is hard on my splines and other moving drive parts ?

Hmmm. So anytime my wife drives, I have her R mode set in 4A.
She's clocked 12k ish miles in 4A at varying levels of power.

I am no expert on the 4A functionality. Please correct me if I'm wrong. But they're actively engaging/applying power to one/both of the front tires when a slip is sensed. I feel better knowing she is driving in 4A. I've watched her run completely off the road dodging a UPS truck, sliding sideways, I had time to stop as it unfolded, she never let off the gas, and jumped back up on the road, and kept going. I stopped and made sure everything, property, UPS guy (he shat himself), was ok. She didn't realize it was as bad as it was, and I know if it had not been in 4A she wouldn't have had the same outcome.

In my opinion, and it's an opinion. I think you should be able to run the life of the vehicle in 4A if you chose.

Here are some facts.
I've broken multiple times, every part of the drive train except the part you're referring to, I've yet to find it's limits. Rear diff, rear axles, driveshaft, transmission, etc.

I run mine in 4H at high speeds, and often. I live near hwy 129/the dragon (if you've heard of it) in Tennessee. I run that road in 4H, as hard as I can go, until my brakes or tires give out.

I'm pulling sub 3 second 0-60 times in 4H, and I kept waiting for the front to go.

Also in dealing with shops, and other owners globally, they've all experienced similar issues as I have, but yet to hear a failure from 4A.

Long winded, but..I say go for it. If you are driving a little extra, go ahead and click into 4H.

Weird question, does the sand squeak when you walk on it? That would indicate that the sand grain hasn't eroded the sharp edges off and have a tendency to grab onto itself inconsistently. Just a thought, throwing stuff at the dartboard to see what sticks at this point
