Went to the Dallas show. I got to sit in a Lariat and I will say those seats are the most comfortable of any of the Canyon, Tacoma, Frontier that were also there. The Lariat was a hot pepper red 2WD Lariat and my wife almost convinced me to change to that vs the Velocity Blue I currently ordered. I also confirmed with a tape measure Ranger is the only one that has 48" between the wells. One measurement I couldn't find anywhere online was the height of the bed which I measured to be 21".
If you plan to go to the show, expect to be disappointed as it is very small this year. Lots of manufacturers not present - in years past I always enjoyed seeing the concept cars and all the hyped up videos and presentations from manufacturers, and also checking out some of the higher end luxury cars even with no intent to purchase. This year had none of that except for the Lexus convertible. Ford had only one Ranger, and they had the power off on it. One of the Ford guys I talked to said it was off because it is not released yet. Not sure if that's true, but lame considering most other vehicles had power. Other than that there were a few other midsize trucks, but no GMC Canyon.
At least now I have sat in other trucks, and until today a Taco was one I thought I would consider. Not any more - the Taco was an immediate thumbs down. It looks like kids building blocks inside and was uncomfortable. The Colorado is meh, "ok", but confirmed me to scratch that one off too as it just seemed plain. The Frontier is the only other midsize I sat in and thought it has enough to be consideration. All in all, an hour drive and $50 for my wife and I to get in and park, was not really worth it.
You can also ride in an EV on the test track which we did in an Audi Q8. There was no wait when we went, but if there is a line, I'd skip it. You can't drive, you just sit and ride and each person has to fill out a different waiver for each manufacturer, so we just did the one. No extra cost though, just something to do...
There you have it. Now if Ford would only get me scheduled dad gummit!
