I am getting ready to order my 2026 Ranger Lariat. One of the options is paint protection film. Where does this cover and do you think it's worth the price?
Thanks,
CB

It’s probably this, which isn’t a lot of coverage. I had the hood and fender edges done by a local shop and the hood portion goes almost halfway up the hood.

What is Ford charging?

I don't recall what the price was but after 10k miles I wish I had gotten it on the hood.

Yeah, that leading edge of the hood is a problem. The plastic faces down below seem to do OK because there’s just enough “give” in the plastic. But a 70-degree metal plane is going to pick up a lot of chips.

Attached are three pictures showing my factory-applied ppf. If you look closely you can see where the ppf is on the leading edge of the hood and front of the quarter panel. What drives me bananas is that the lower piece of blue below the headlight, and the gray painted portions of the front didn’t get ppf. I don’t regret getting it, but when we bought our Bronco sport I opted to get ppf applied at a local shop (which was a lot more money, but they applied more film for better coverage).

It was on my ‘25 when i bought it…in less than a year it was so yellow,it was ridiculous.
It has since been removed and replaced with Suntek,by the guy I use for all my vehicles.
The coverage gained, and quality of the film is night and day.

Luckily the dealer I bought from removed the cost from my deal as well as their added window tint, and desert paint protection garbage….

I usually order my vehicles to avoid the nonsense..But once i moved my Shelby down the road,Iwas just looking for a simple, plain jane Ranger to get me around while i work on my current project.

Wow, that’s disappointing. Mine is 3M, with a 10 year warranty. Shame on Ford for cheaping out on their material.

I paid $600 for the extended hood/fenders coverage. I’ve seen it as low as $500 and as high as $800. I’ve used the same shop for years now and they are outstanding. With PPF, install quality is 50% of the game.

I have the factory PPF. Get an aftermarket PPF, the factory coverage is minimal. I now have 3 paint chips at the back of my hood which is not covered by PPF. Not happy…

I was looking at a 2026 that the dealer ordered with factory PPF. It has everything else I wanted, but I don't want the PPF because I use a car wash. I don't have the time nor desire to hand wash my truck.

My brother got that on his vehicle. 7 years later it was all cracked up. Wouldn't come off. Had to replace the hood. Save your money and go through the car wash a little more often.

The factory ppf also covers just in front of the rear wheel well up to the front of the bed. And of course on the front of the hood and sides.

its probably less expensive to get aftermarket to cover the same areas or more for that price.

i would definitely get ppf either aftermarket or factory in those areas.

I ended up with factory ppf because I picked up an ordered truck and it came with it. I don’t dislike it, I haven’t seen any yellowing but I do keep my car in a garage.

Just got the entire truck done for $4200, which is cheap, and the stuff is thick. Every painted surface is covered. 10 year warranty. Then applied the new code orange outlined decals on top.

For me $4200 is expensive, but may be worth it if it does a good job protecting the paint.
Got a question...does the ppf change the appearance of the truck? In other words does the
paint look brighter or more attractive with the ppf on?
