I just had my oil change. I had planned on doing it at 1k miles but... Regardless my oil looked like this coming out. Been FP tuned since 500 miles , no offroad, not allot if high boost time. Very surprised ay how dark it was. Cannot imagine going 10k as recommended.

Not really surprising for a turbo direct injection engine.

Personally I wouldn't go any more than 5,000 miles between changes. I would suggest a used oil analysis to check fuel dilution.

Now that is good advise. Thank you. Plan on going 3k full syn as of today.

I had to get my oil changed earlier than recommended because my mpgs were at 14 and when I bought the truck it had 200 idle hours on it.

It honestly doesn't look too bad to me, still see some honey color to it through the light...but I'm coming from a diesel pickup to mine and I'm used to solid black in 50 miles after a change :p

I would do a 1k change on my new 2.3 but I have a big road trip coming up and I think I'll be at around 3k when I get back...going to break it in I guess! I am also planning to settle into 5k changes.

Darkness is not really an indication of oil wear though. You really need to get it analysed for a true indication on how ‘dirty’ it is
I will difinitely get it analysed next change at 5300 mile and on full synth

It's a waste of money to change that early, but I know many people do it thinking they're somehow doing a good thing. You can't tell anything by "how dark" the oil is. The only way to truly know when to change your oil is use an oil analysis company like Blackstone, etc. They can tell you how much of the additive pack is left in the oil, what metals and other contaminants are present, etc. From that they can suggest a service interval that's based on data instead of what feels good.

I always change the oil around the first 500 miles then at ~2,500 miles and 5,000 miles. Settling in at 5k miles OCI's. I always send out oil samples to Blackstone - 100% you can see the reduction in wear metals come down and normalize.

I also change the differential gear oil and transfer case fluid at my second ~2,500 mile oil change. I'll do the first transmission fluid drain and fill at ~ 15k miles. I have seen some crazy metal glitter in the differential gear oil as the gears breakin.

It’s dark and stinks because Ecoboost.

I’m changing mine at 1k, 3k, and never any more than 3500 after that. In the grand scheme of things, it’s peanuts.

One of the fastest ways to destroy an Ecoboost is to go >5k miles between oil changes.

I did my first oil change at 1500 miles. After my first oil change I get my oil changed every 3000 miles. My Ford dealer has done all the oil changes
Ditto. Being fp tuned I want it pristine.
