I have a 22 Ranger and CARB just approved the Ford tune a week or two back. Today, I finally had it installed after waiting for over a year for CARB to approve. It's worth the wait but yes, it's a painfully long period.

All you need is a receipt from any ASE mechanic saying they pushed the button to “retain your warranty”.

And that is only IF a dealer is trying to fight you on a warranty claim trying to put blame on the tune…

Disregard that. That was my reply to a post that gave us misinformation. It's all clear now. You'll have your warranty with a tune.

Got my procal from lethal on Monday.
Set up my ford performance account yesterday and got the procal updated, saved the stock cal, and downloaded the performance tune to the procal.
Stopped by my dealer today after work to see of they had time to push the button for warranty.
They were able to get it in, and did the window recall before flashing the tune.
Cost me $110 for tune install. Worth it to me with all the conflicting info flying around here.

No power impressions yet, but the trans tune did seem better.

I am actually considering this approach, if CARB doesn't approve the tune by December😅

There are a number of different types of ASE certification. For example, a tech might be ASE certified in Air Conditioning only.

Has anyone asked Ford Performance if a specific ASE certification is needed? The wording seems to imply it would be any type of ASE cert which is comical but also opens up the market considerably.

After talking to Ford Performance today, I'm going to go thru the steps and get the performance tune downloaded onto my Procal and take it to the ASE shop that I talked to today.

It'll cost me at the most $130 for them to do the install, where as the Dealer was still insisting it will take over 2 hrs. They threw away easy money by not keeping updated on the current stuff and stubbornly basing their pricing on older/outdated info.

After learning some new details I am going to have to apologize to you guys for spreading information which is not entirely accurate regarding the tune and any potential warranty issues which may arise.

1st: Any dealership which receives your vehicle for service WILL KNOW in no uncertain terms, that it has been tuned...they will not need access to your vehicle to know this, it will come up automatically on the OASIS report which is generated every time a vehicle is written up for service.

2nd: the OASIS flag is generated when your procal/voucher is married to your vin. EVEN IF YOU HAVE NOT INSATLLED THE TUNE or if you flash back to stock, or even replace your PCM w/an unflashed brand new in box one, your vin will still show this flag! I am NOT saying that this flag voids any potential warranty claims...only stating that it DOES EXIST, and AFAIK there is NO WAY to remove it.

I got this info from a dealer tech who I know well, and believe it is 100% accurate. My RR has not been flagged yet, here is the OASIS report from my Bronco which has been tuned for well over a year. Neither of us knows how long it takes to get into the system. Wish this wasn't how it worked, but it is

I still plan on getting my Procal set up to the point where I have the performance tune on it, but I plan on waiting until the day that the shop can slip it in their schedule to push the install button.

I should still be ok if I do that and get the receipt from them charging me for the install, correct?

I can't really advise anybody what could happen on any potential future warranty claim, given this information. I would say if installing the tune, follow FP's guidelines to the letter, and have that receipt ready if challenged by any service manager anywhere. The tech I talked to did have a FP tune installed on his vehicle, and has had one warranty claim under 3/36, for which he DID NOT call that phone # and the claim went through just fine...however YMMV. Important to note that the OASIS flag DOES NOT go away when the tune is removed. I personally am still not worried about it, but I accept a certain level of risk. I wouldn't want to be accused of advising anyone else, and they end up SOL!

I am still a bit confused on the whole ASA/Ford Dealer install. Do they need to enter anything saying they installed the tune? Or is all I am after just an invoice from an ASA certified shop or dealer in case Ford asks sometime down the line who did the work?

My local Dealership could end up being a jerk if anything were to happen under warranty because I didn't let them install it, but that's the risk I'm willing to take.

I tried talking to them again today, and they still insist I'm wrong on the install time and that it'll take over 2 hrs. The ASE shop I talked to is going to get back to me as to when they can slip it in. (I work weekends, so the earliest will be next week)
