Hi all. Obviously, I didn’t buy this truck for its great MPG, that being said; I did think I’d fare a LITTLE better than this.

To add some context, I’m in Texas at sea level, and have the ProCal installed for a little less than a month now, have been filling with 93 octane since then, and have 2500 miles on the dash, bought a 24’ new in January

Did my first tank of exclusively highway miles, with not much overtaking etc, in normal mode. Ran about 200 miles in the afternoon, fully highway, minimal to no stops or idling (minus a very quick 4 min McDonald’s drive thru) and only got 15.9mpg on my entire trip.

ive seen some posts in here of yall getting close to 20, in some cases 21. Just curious if anyone else has had the same experience, or has a guess why my mileage seemingly is a bit lower than what I personally expected, or this is about accurate.

I haven't been on here in some time. I've got a 2020 Ranger Lariat super crew 2wd. I usually drive around 65 - 75 mph my gas mileage averages 23 mpg. I always run either Chevron or Exxon gas. Sometimes shell

I've had my 2.3 liter Ranger about a year. For the first 6 months I was getting 22mpg overall. I recently took a couple hundred mile trip, half freeway half winding roads. On the way there I got 20.2 mpg. On the way home I was pulling a small pop up camper and got 20.3.

I've had the trip computer going since about 200 miles, and now I'm just over 1,000. So far, my average is showing as 16.2.

The transmission was still in it's learning stages, obviously, and for a while was hitting higher RPMs than I'd have chosen myself.

I'll reset the trip computer soon and see what happens.

16.2 may not sound great, but I was getting 8-10MPG in my Discovery, so that's a big jump for me.

I've noticed mileage on my raptor drops pretty drastically based on speed

80kmh 22+ mpg
90kmh 20mpg
100KMh 19mpg
110kmh 18mpg
120kmh 17mpg

These numbers are only achievable using adaptive cruise control + normal mode on the highway

Using my foot im lucky to crack 16mpg

Those are great numbers, I'm getting 14.4mpg. Saw a high of 14.9. Not much highway driving mostly around town stop and go. Hoping highway trips improve the mileage or I'm going to be making frequent gas stops.

Getting 17.2 so far on Raptor all around only 800 miles on it. Same as the old Dodge with a hemi, so no biggy. The small tank sucks though.

My Ranger Raptor with FP tune and about 8,400 miles on it mostly highway, is averaging 17.6 mpg on 93 octane. Average speed I drive is around 82. I went on a trip recently and when I stayed around 68mph in a construction zone for 50 miles it shot up to around 21. That’s the only time I have gone above 18 in the 5 months I’ve owned it. Whenever I listen to Rage against the Machine it seems to not get above 15.

2024 RR with FP Pro Cal since about 5k miles, currently at 13,650 miles on the truck (bought it in March of this year). My long-term average is 16.8 mpg, best I got was about 19 mpg all highway at lower speeds (60~65, no headwind, mostly flat in warmish weather).

I've seen no change in fuel economy before or after the pro-cal, about the same (long term average has stayed at 16.8 after I reset it and let it accumulate again). Driving habbits / trips are fairly routine with it and while I'm not on the throttle constantly, I have no issue putting it to the floor when it's appropriate or just because :sunglasses:

I've read that some pick up 1/2 to 1 mpg by using a tonneau cover because the tail gate is a giant air brake, so that may be where some of the differences come from, but lots of other factors like driving habits, terrain, altitude, humidity, fuel quality, tire pressure and cargo. Fuel economy is fickle, you have it, or you don't, even with a 73 hp Prius C lol.

Seriously though, 455 HP / 536 lb-ft of torque on a 5400 lb truck running soft compound 33" AT Baja style tires....that's NOT bad considering the drag / rolling resistance / power output that's available.

Note that there's a common misconception that Ecoboost engines are going to use less fuel when making full power, that's NOT how it works. The 5.0L and the 3.5L and 3.0L all use around the same fuel and have similar output when under power (towing, WOT or heavy throttle). The fuel savings comes at light load conditions, where the engine is operating more or less NA and the turbos are in bypass. The smaller displacement engines can save around 10~15% on fuel, which isn't huge, but definitely something. Obviously, the broad torque band makes for a broad power band, which is ideal for off-road (Baja, crawling etc.) and towing conditions.

Not exactly apples to apples, but my 2016 Mustang GT with the gen 2 5.0L V8 weighed only 3751 lbs, had a FP Stage 2 Power Pack (456 HP / 424 lb-ft, similar power to the 3.0L with FP Pro Cal but way less torque) and also required 91+ with the Power Pack. I could on rare occasion manage mid 20's, but my long term average on that car was only 17.3 MPG and it weighed nearly 1,700lbs less than the RR, had about ZERO utility and couldn't tow squat, plus a tiny payload capacity…it was FUN to drive fast, sounded super bad a** with a Corsa cat back, looked beautiful and could pull over 1G on a corner, but aside from that...no Beuno!

So personally, I think 16-18 MPG is GOOD considering the capability of the RR, especially with the Pro Cal power output, even if your averaging closer to 16. I might suggest the following:

1. Make sure tire pressure is 39 PSI
2. Use Top Tier fuels to keep the injectors clean over the life the vehicle
3. Drive within 7mph of the actual speed limit and try to keep constant speed as much as possible (keep to lanes with less traffic).

Do all that on a known route, see what you average on a single trip just for that trip.

Hi

I have a new month old 2024 lariat, I have had the trip 1 on the whole time to calculate the MG i have been getting for the whole time i have had the truck. this is alot of pittsburgh hills, back roads, traffic, and some highway miles. 2500 or so and i am getting 22.2 overall

on a highway trip i was getting just over 24 calculated on Trip 2 that i use to reset for individual trips

Like you i have used 93 since i got the truck and i am also intentionally driving slower and with much less foot on the gas than i used to in the MDX i had.

on the highway i used eco as well and i have only used SPORT once to check that out

i dont have a tonneau cover on either yet.

hopefully you can get better soon, i have been happy with this, since the MDX was a big disappointment for me in the gas mileage dept.
I have a ‘24 Lariat FX4, Adv Tow Pkg with the 2.3 Turbo. I’ve gotten as much as 26 mpg on the highway w/o a bed cover. On average hw & city combined is about 18 mpg. I expected to see better mileage after I installed a trifold hardtop bed cover but did not. It’s about the same if not a little less. Towing our 4500 lbs travel trailer we get on average 13 mpg.
Hope that helps.

I did a round trip NW Austin TX to Burke, VA to hang with the grandkids. The mileage included as an Uber for the kiddos for over a week NoVa including DC.

We typically just drive on the slow lanes at or below the speed limits.

MPG calculated based on miles traveled and fill up was off with the readout and slightly lower.

Picture was as I parked the RR at the house.

Preety much what I get under similar conditions with my 2025RR with the performance tune. As long as I maintain around 65-70 mph I get about 20-21 mpg. However increasing the speed to 70+ it drops to 17+mpg. Around town 15-16 mpg.

I recently lost a little over 1 MPG. I suspect that it's because they start producing winter blend fuel in September.
