Has anyone installed a K&N engine air filter on their RR?

A while back I saw dyno results of the RR in the ROW market where they just installed a performance air filter, and they got considerable horsepower gains. I was wondering if anyone has installed a K&N filter, and how it fits before i go ahead and order one before my truck arrives.

I much prefer the AEM one but don't really feels the gains other than I can clean it and not have to replace it.

I have a K&N in my Fusion Sport, with the 2.7 engine. It's also washable so I don't have to replace it. Though I frankly haven't noticed much of a performance improvement.

Do you notice anymore intake noise than stock?

Honestly. When I put it in I didn't notice any difference at all. I just left it because I could spray it down and never have to replace an air filter again.

A K&N filter by itself will not add any power to a modern engine. It might have been true for some in the 80s/90s but most new ones are pretty well optimized for airflow. The wash/replace aspect is nice though. Generally, the filter is not the most restrictive part in the engine in stock form so they will only add power if you've done something else to the engine to increase air flow, like more boost or more free flowing exhaust.

Installing a K&N filter is a fine idea if you like the extra 1-2 HP it'll give you. However, unless you frequently race your vehicle on a track, the added dust and dirt that will flow freely through the K&N filter isn't worth the possible engine damage, especially on the turbos.......https://youtu.be/sJ3L-E-ufYo

Why not wait for the Ford tune that will be coming? As part of those, a k&n filter kit comes with it. Then it's warrantied by Ford performance. And you'll get a boost in hp and torque that is engineered by Ford performance and again warrantied by them.

There isn’t a Ranger Raptor K&N officially released but;

The K&N Bronco 3.0L fit the Ranger Raptor. I’ve been utilizing one for the past three weeks.👍🇺🇸

I have run K&N filters on all of my vehicles since the mid 70s.. I have never seen any damage from particles passage through the filter. On my current Ranger with 300K miles on it, I wipe down he inside of the intake tube after the filter with a white cloth each time I clean the filter. I have never found any sign of contamination. My 02 Ranger spends at least 4 weeks in remote wilderness each year with some very dusty conditions sometimes. The outside of the engine sure gets very much dust on it but the inside is clean. I have even used oil analysis to check for dust intake into the engine. Clean there too.

Having said that, I communicated with a man that works on a fleet of trucks. Some of them have turbo charged engines. They tried K&N filters and found eventually they were getting erosion to the turbine surfaces from something the K&N filters were passing. So it seems K&N style filters do pass something that doesn't harm normally aspirated engines but play havoc with turbos. When I eventually get a Ranger with an Ecoboost engine, I will not be using a K&N filter on it.

Thank you! You have helped me with my decision. I’m not installing a K&N filter in my RR.
I was on the fence.

I would take this with a grain of salt. K&N is a well respected brand across tons of turbo charge street cars and no one has ever had an issue. Ive ran one on my modified STI for years with no issue. The filter is not the issue in this case.

As very long term user of K&N filters, I very much agree with you. I think where the problem with turbos comes in with dusty conditions that anyone would get in off-road or other than paved roads. I don't have any personal experience with turbos that are filtered with K&N filters but I respect the guy's information on the fleet trucks he services.

My conclusion was it is not worth the risk for me because I spend a lot of time off-road in dusty conditions. I will pay the difference to use paper filters. I will continue to use K&N on my N/A engine powered vehicles, including my race car, at least until I get valid confirmed information that K&N air filters wil not pass anything that wail harm turbos in dusty conditions.
