Brad (at HMF) will do whatever you want, but on the listing for the 2024 RR rock sliders under materials it states,
  • Outer Rail: Crafted from 1.75" x .120 round tubing, available in DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) or HREW (Hot Rolled Electric Weld).
I had him do square tubing because I thought it would look better than round tubing with the lines of the truck.

Cool man, thanks for the reply. I’m still waiting on my truck to get built. I’ll be going with hot metal as well. How did the welds look on your sliders? I saw a member in here make a post on the quality and penetration of the welds on their sliders. Or lack there of penetration and sloppy welds. Everything I’ve seen on their YouTube channel looks really good.

That’s the big problem with welds that look like that. You will never really know if the strength is acceptable until your truck slams down onto a ledge... That uncertainty would worry the heck out of me. Maybe this is a reason for a buyer to get the unassembled parts kit and have a local trusted fabrication shop complete the work.

Does anybody know how many hours that would take? The price difference from Hot Metal is $520…. I can’t see how any of the 4x4 shops near me could come remotely close to that….

Thanks.

You can just buy the kit and weld it yourself. I would like to see someone weld the rock slider together and see how it comes out. Would be interesting.

That is an over priced kit .. personally I can just order a stick of 1” round tube , rec tube and plate . Rough sketch what I would like , take some measurements. Check them and cut . Tack a few pieces see how it is and if I’m happy weld it up . Cost is going to be half of what that kit is . Not everyone has that option though.

Probably true. But when I add up the cost of the materials, the cost of the welding equipment, the time and cost of going to welding school....these might actually not be that bad.
