even the cheapie tonneau covers come with the strip for that area. for a soft roll ups, i always buy the least expensive one and they always have a foam strip that goes in that spot.

This thread is giving me a Mandela Effect. I feel like 99% of trucks come with a trim cap for that!

I posted pics of about every brand of truck out there with steel beds yesterday.
No US truck comes with a trim cap on the front of the bed.

I wonder what the engineering reason is for this.
Purely a guess on my part but…
The tops on the exterior bed panels aren’t even “finished” and have to have caps to make them look presentable. my opinion is this is so manufacturers can sell panels when a vehicle is in a wreck/collision as opposed to a body shop repairing a panel. The old style rolled top panels added strength and rigidity to the bed sides. The newer style bed tops are made to be unbolted and replaced, much like the front fenders.

It looks to me like top of the rail is still a continuous part of the bed side.

But I do think that you might be right that they can leave all of those holes in it and just cover it with plastic.

I don’t really have an answer , I just know I have owned 100s of trucks throughout my whole life, trucks from the 70s to today all brands , never seen a truck with a cap on the front of the bed from the factory. Seen plenty of aftermarket stuff over the years.

The top side of the bed bulkhead is hidden on all my trucks, with either , headache racks, tool boxes, toppers, bed covers etc etc.

I guess we're just used to seeing that covered, most have a drop in plastic bedliner covering it.

Even spray in liners make it less noticeable when it’s all black like the plastic bed rail caps.

My cover came with a strip to seal it. My biggest problem is the side bed caps on my new '25 are convex (higher in the middle) not flat so the cover rails will not sit flat on the bed and there's a half inch gap at the tailgate. Other Rangers we checked on the lot are flatter.

i have always had a toolbox on trucks, too. just my titan and this one have not. i seem to remember the older trucks front wall was the same height as the sides though so you didn't need a huge seal to fill in stuff, though
