My 2 cents, the whole wet belt thing is overblown and seems to be the same handful of stories parroted across the forum boards with most being the very early small displacement 4 & 3 cylinder engines. Most of those are from Europe where extended oil drain intervals are the norm with the corresponding higher oil acidity levels.

lubricate it with oil (which causes rubber to degrade)
Nobody uses rubber belts anymore except maybe the cheapest of the cheap parts house belts. These oil pump belts are EPDM which doesn't break down with in contact with oil.

EPDM is why you replace belts when the micro Vs wear down these days because they don't crack like old rubber belts would.

Unless you're routinely pulling near the max and live in the mountains (at which point I'd recommend going up a truck size) it will be more than enough. My biggest complaint with this engine is that it sounds like absolute garbage, like not even "agricultural", just bad.

Exactly!
It's a short Kevlar reinforced polymer belt designed to be cooled and lubricated in an oil bath. It's driving a variable ratio oil pump, not 4 camshafts and 24 valves.
Use a lubricant that meets Ford's specifications and follow the maintenance schedule.
The belt will last a very long time. The sky will not fall.

My fault for not explaining this correctly. It has a wet oil pump drive belt. Same song different verse.
That explains it. I too had questions about that belt driven oil pump.

I just realized that the 2.7 powerplant was launched in 2014. I'd like to think that Ford has it fully debugged by now.

Go on the Bronco forum and see all the cam phaser failures on 2.7's.

So i had the RR and was unlucky enough to get the Cam Phaser issue at 900 miles (see other posts here). I love the truck, and would consider getting a none RR and going with a FX4 or Tremor. But I fear the 2.7L build on almost same specs as the 3.0L, has the same known Cam Phaser issues. I have heard nothing bad about the 2.3 and know from the Mustang to other models using the motor, it performs very well, with limited known issues (maybe carbon build up), so guys driving the 2.3L, is it enough motor? Or do you feel its underpowered?
I bought a ford ranger 2.3 and it has plenty of power, you need to think about gas mileage I think the 2.3 gets about 2 to 3 miles better ,however I have not towed a trailer, but just the vehicle itself it has plenty of power!! And remember warm up your motor first especially in the winter (morning) especially before driving so the oil can circulate the entire engine !! I let mine idle about 3 to 5 minutes these cold autumn mornings !! change your factory oil BEFORE 1000 miles, and there after between 3 and 4 k miles after its a must for the turbocharger etc!!

2.3L has plenty of power.

Ford Service Dept told me theres no reason to change oil before 5k for the entire life of the vehicle. I took my truck there at 3.5k miles and they told me straight up that it was unnecessary until i hit 5k and then change it every 5k after that.

Changing factory oil early was relevant with old vehicles, but it's no longer necessary.

This thread creates a Deja Vu feeling for me.

2019 and I am on a GM forum researching before I purchase a GMC Sierra AT4 with the 6.2 V8. Lots of warnings about Valve Lifter engine issues. Some people warning about it, others saying its no longer an issue. I purchase one and after 5000 miles I have to get new Valve Lifters fitted. Truck off the road for a week. I sold that back to the dealer for $5000 more than I paid for it with 20,000 miles. (This was the time when used car values went through the roof due to inventory)

2024 and I am on a Ford Ranger forum researching before I purchase one. lots of warnings about Cam Phaser issues but others saying no, all is ok and don't worry.

Yep, I wanted the 2.7 but ordered the tried and true 2.3 for that reason. I don't want them pulling my engine. It will never be the same. I'm not towing with it and the 2.3 is peppy enough and will get 2 or 3 better mpgs.
