I have had my 2025 XLT since August of this year and have two issues- want to see if I am crazy or if anyone else is feeling the same way.

1. I have gone on a few road trips, with the small interior and our dog, seems to be pretty cramped and we do have to squeeze in the dog and our stuff (possible solution is a good tonneau cover but aside from that, still pretty small with just the dog and us. I cant imagine having a passenger in the backseat and the doggie.

2. The lack of aftermarket availability for mods and in general cool things has been an annoyance, I want to customize my truck to be mine but at the moment theres really not much out there, plus tons of manufacturers have said they wont be doing anything for the 6g ranger

Outside of this, I really do enjoy the truck, its great and has given me 0 issues. Really do love it.

Aftermarket is a bummer right now, no doubt about that. Not to mention half the stuff you find online is from Australia which excludes some for practical reasons.

Room wise, there's no doubt more room in a full size truck. However, you still have to use the bed when you get to most cargo and luggage if you have someone in the back. I would never own a truck without a tonneau for this reason. If you have a big dog or frequently need to drive larger adults in the back, it's worth considering those extra inches because they have a real impact all the time instead of just the one time.

Thank you for the reply, do you mind letting me know what tonneau you currently have? Any leaks when raining?

I do have a large dog, but the passenger in rear seat is a non issue for the vast majority of the time.

There is a OEM Ford electric sliding aluminum tonneau in the Wildtrak models, stock equipment. Its awesome. Two push on the remote's button and its open, or it has a button near the 120v outlet in the bed. You could buy it, its quite good. There is a manual sliding version, its still. great. Just pull a rope to close. No key needed to open, just pull down a hanging rope ans push it back.

Question. Have you ever considered a nice fiberglass topper? I have traveled a lot with my medium sized. border collie. He often goes in the back seat when going, and goes back in the bed after getting very wet in the lake. Just needs a side window barely open and a comfortable mat.
People will have all space for them, and dog will be very protected even when traveling in the rain.
I had a fiberglass one because lightness, to be able to take it down by two persons. Easy to hold an entire 29" mtb bike without taking out any wheel on a Tacoma short bed.
As for misc storage, im with you. After my 2nd gen Tacoma that had storage at the rear of the rear seats, the Ranger doesnt has a dime there. Almost nothing under the rear seat. All have to go in the bed, in the crevices near the wheel arches

My last truck I had a Truxedo X15, which was an amazing soft top. Didn't like it as much with ice build up though, so I went with a hard foldable the Leer 650HM this time. I did a lot of research and went to several stores, ultimately the Leer 4 fold seemed the best combination of price/value/function due to it sitting well below the cab brake light when fully open, and the nicer feeling latch mechanism (vs just pull strings or wire handles).

I do like both options and would recommend either, though I had the X15 for a decade (and they replaced several parts for free the entire time with the lifetime warranty) vs. the Leer for 1 month.

Apparently the $600-800 deals people were finding on the 650HM last Spring are no more to be found. It's $1100+ now everywhere. :(

What sort stuff is lacking.
Genuinely curios what is lacking.

‘Seems we have a lot of threads around here doing all sorts of aftermarket mods.

Lots of wheel and tire options, lifts kits, levels kits, shocks, toppers, bed covers, lighting upgrades of all Types, all sorts of steps, rock rails, splash guards, mud flaps, bed liners etc etc.

This mod might be of interest for those of us with pups that like to travel with us.
I have one of these on order.

For dogs in the rear, keeping the rear seat intact, check, PETDEK. its sold in ebay. Looks old but the thing is GREAT even for bigger dogs.
A foldable stable rear deck without the need to remove the rear seat.

Looking around the internet, it does seem that the Ranger has limited choices for aftermarket parts. only aftermarket mod I did was add a Curt trailer receiver hitch.

I had a '17 F150 XLT, SCab, 4x4, 5.0, 302A, heavy duty towing, just loaded, and in Blue Jeans. It was a good truck until it wasn't. Anyway, I've now had three full-size, including one 2500HD, and three mid-size pick-ups, and won't go back to a full size. Just don't need it really, and I like having more garage space with the mid-size.
