Lifting windshield whipper's scraping paint off the hood

I apologize for my incorrect procedure on moving the wipers, I’ve done it on other vehicles, and applied the same method when I first realized the wipers tuck under the hood.
I will continue using my method fully realizing the risk of damage, but I do not recommend anyone else follow my procedure.

I did the same the first time and I now notice that they don't go down completely anymore?

Hand manipulated the wipers since it was new. No issues whatsoever.

I do, and I don't. If something appears obvious and is consistent with past vehicles, I don't go to the manual.

But if the use of something is even slightly unclear and/or different from my experience, I look it up. I might alternatively do an internet search, but most of the time I would have been better off just going to the manual.

Yea... the first thing i do when i get home is read a 200 page book front to back



Damn thats right they did not give me a physical book... now i remember .. i had to go through and find it on the screen

I have not looked to see if i got a paper version yet. The previous new vehicles did, 18 mazda 3 touring, 17 texas titan, 19 wrangler amd the wife and i would break it out when we needed to learn how to use something. We used that mazda 3 touring manual alot and that sucker is 1.5 inches thick.

It had the proper instructions for doing a brake job in the mazda manual because the mazda has the same electric parking brake (i mean looks identical) that this ranger has. On the mazda, you have to push the ignition for a certain amount of time while holding the pedal and the calipers slide into a maintenance position which allows you to change the pads without damaging the automatic braking or electric parking brake system.

I wonder if the ranger is the same since mazda and fors used to share lots of stuff?

That is what i have been doing actually. I didn't know this the first time i tried it and have been doing it since. guess i just didn't pull it forward enough last night thought.

Don't be a dumbass. This has been a thing for a very long time, so you don't even need a new vehicle every ten years to possibly have had a car with this.

My last vehicle was bought new in 2006 so who is the dumbass?
My wifes car is a 2013 and also doesn't have this.

I would still have my old vehicle and drive it except life and needs have changed since then. So a truck makes more sense now.

I also do quality testing for a living and always advocate for user friendly and intuitive use.
I have always changed my own wipers etc. So when you do this 1 way on all vehicles for 30 yrs. this change is not intuitive and can lead to damaging the vehicle.
Having to start a car, turn on whippers, stop car, then lift whipper's is pretty involved for something that has been so simple for so long.
Then If you forget they are up and start the vehicle they auto move and slam down on the windshield.
Looked around yesterday and yes this is a very common issue many ppl have. There is a reason this is always posted.

I would say it's a poor implementation of a good idea. But it's likely cheaper.

You don’t need to start the car. Just power on the ignition, and move a lever slightly…

Don’t have time to read the manual, but spend how much time in this forum? You can be mad at the rest of us all day long, but that scratched paint you see everyday is a reminder that the owners manual exists for a reason.

Yet there have been cars 20 years ago that had this design.
Face it your tiny sample doesn't mean a thing. It's been around forever- just because you didn't know about it doesn't mean it's new.

It’s easy to argue that for the money we spend on our trucks we should get a paper copy, and I agree, but dying mad about it doesn’t make my life any better so I spent the money on the hard copy.
