Apologize if this has already been discussed; i tried to search but was unable to find anything.

I'm currently agonizing over what trim to purchase/order and would love it if someone would "check my math" so to say.

The unavailable features on a Lariat that can not be added on with packages etc on an XLT are (in no specific order or importance)

Garage door opener
Push Button Start + intelligent access
12" gauge cluster
Rain Sensing Wipers
Heated Steering Wheel
Leather Trimmed Seating
Leather Wheel/Shifter
Low profile shifter
Side View Mirrors (turn signal, approach lamps)
Projector Headlights
Grill / badges etc...

I'm sure i'm missing more!

Added from thread responses:
Upper Glove Box
Matrix Headlights
Ambient Lighting

If you get the technology package with advanced park assist, that should give you the low profile shifter. The shifter needs to be electric for the truck to park itself.

The low profile e-shifter only comes with the Raptor or the 4x4 optioned Lariat which includes the updated Active Park Assist 2.0 feature . 4x2 Lariat does NOT get the e-shifter.

Ambient lighting may only come with the Lariat.

I agonized with the same delima, ultimately I went with the Lariat primarily because of the push button start. The pricing was pretty similar to the fully load XLT vs. Lariat, but I really enjoy the convinience of not having the manual key.

I do like the XLT wheels better though.

I don't think that is correct, very very sure I saw it in video reviews for the xlt. Def requires the 4x4 and likely as the privious poster said the hi tech package though i'm not 100% sure.

The XLT definitely has the better wheels between the two. If Ford put a push button start and the upgraded headlights (and the 2.7 turbo), the XLT would be pretty close to perfect. At least from where I'm sitting.

I Just got my Ranger and love it so far. I was able to get the 1000.00 discount even though it was cancelled in December. They started another discount in January. Also got the Ford family discount of 1500.00 through the company I worked for. I opted for the XLT because living in south Florida I don't like leather. As for the push button start, when you get the Ford pass app, you can start the truck from your phone.

I'm guessing the video you saw was a preproduction test mule, lots of times you might see things that are different than production models. You can also go to fords website and do a build & price for an xlt, select the 4x4 option, select the high equip group, select the technology pkg and any other options you like, then scroll down towards the end and you'll see a picture of the interior, there you'll see the standard shifter. Now do the build & price on the lariat 4x4, select any options you want, then scroll down towards the end and you'll see a picture of the interior, there you'll see the electronic e shifter.

Speaking of which…

For those of you who have taken delivery of an XLT, how does the remote-start from the key fob actually work? On Lariat, you can start it remotely, but I assume you still have to press the start button once you get in the truck, which is how it works in my Bronco.

So on XLT, do you have to put the key in the ignition if you’ve started it remotely? Do you have to turn it?

Yeah looking at the images of the one in my order and it does look like it's the taller version after all.
